Architecture and construction is one of the careers that I am interested in. To become an architect one as to complete a five-year degree in an institution that is recognized by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. One also has to go for internship programs during the degree program, which helps build the skills and experience required. The average salary is 79380 dollars per year, whereas the starting salary is 68257 dollars (Irina, 2020). The salaries may differ from one town to another, and the same case applies to the cost of living in different cities. In New York, for instance, the average salary of an architect is 68079 dollars whereas in Los Angeles the average salary is 64003 which is slightly lower as compared to that of New York (Irina, 2020). This may be due to the fact that the cost of living in New York is higher.

The projected growth rate of architect positions is determined to be 4% which is slightly less than the estimated overall growth rate of the economy in the next ten years (Reijula & Hertwig, 2020). The slow growth rate was one of the things that are a concern since I expected the growth rate to be higher. The length of time it takes for one to be a fully certified architect is also a challenge since it may take even up to twelve years for one to be a well-established architect in the market which is a little bit too long.

Architecture may evolve in the form of design and materials that are used to construct buildings. The evolvement may be due to the change of people’s culture. Architecture is a good career choice since I am passionate about buildings and the environments that surround them. I also consider myself a creative person, and being an architect will help me apply my creativity. As a result of this exercise, I have learnt more about architecture; for instance, the qualifications have been clarified. It has made me more interested in the career.

Civil engineering is also another career that I take an interest in. The minimum requirement to become a civil engineer is to have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. The degree takes up to about four years. After that person has to be licensed by the state to become a fully accredited civil engineer. The average salary of a civil engineer is 86640 dollars annually. The starting salary for a civil engineer is estimated to be 78889 dollars, but this may vary according to the different organizations (El-Adaway, 2017). The average salary of a civil engineer in New York, for instance, is 92345 whereas in Los Angeles it’s a bit lower as civil engineers are paid an average of 89534 (El-Adaway, 2017). The same case applies to architectures civil engineers are paid less in Los Angeles as compared to New York, which is mainly because the cost of living is slightly higher in New York than in Los Angeles.

The projected growth rate of a civil engineering career is estimated to be 11% in the next ten years, which is higher than that of architecture (El-Adaway, 2017). It surprises me how much the field of civil engineering is expected to grow as compared to that of architecture since they both seem to be related and therefore should have a predicted growth that is similar or close. Civil engineering will evolve by introducing more technology in the sector which will make work easier and more effective.it is a good career choice as it is marketable. The exercise has helped me gain more information about civil engineering that is the qualification, growth rate and also the salary that a civil engineer is expected to receive. Architecture and civil entering are therefore careers that I am interested in, and they are somehow similar to architects and civil engineers most of the time end up working together.
