A cell phone is a portable electronic device that is used for communication purposes. The cell phone user carries it everywhere as long as the area has mobile coverage. HASEMAN, & HIGHTOWER (2013)stated that the evolution of the mobile phone is big in terms of technology and usage. Cell phones have made the vast field of communication come into our hand. There are several firms producing cell phones. Some of the common producers are Blackberry, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, LG, and Huawei.

The very first cell phone was invented in the year 1973; the idea of cellular networks was introduced long time ago in 1940s. Telephone invention had been a dream of humans for a very long time. The technology of the mobile phone in the early 1940s where the police cabs and the police vehicles had two way radios that allowed the two way communication. The telephone technology has been overtaken by the invention of the mobile. The cell phone is used for many functions including, calling, browsing, SMS, taking photos, etc.

In the earlier stages, mobile phones were very huge and they couldnt be carried around. At the same time, the mobile phone had few specifications. Several of the early telephones were regarded as car phones because they were huge and tiresome. The phones were basically used the business world of sales and marketing. This prompted the development of the cell phone. The evolution of the mobile phones was fast.

Japan was the first country to own a commercial cellular cell phone network in the year 1979. The Nordic Mobile Telephone was introduced in Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden in 1981. AVOLA & RAASCH (2013) said that the very first ever cell phone to be approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FFC) in the United States of America was the Motorola DynaTac. The approval was done in 1983.

The first cell phone was weighty and very huge that you couldnt carry it around. The mobile phone growth has been very fast and is influenced by the manufacturers. The major market of the cell phones is shared by Samsung, Nokia, Apple, LG, Blackberry and etc. The competition among the manufacturers triggers the growth of technology to a very high rate. Mobile phone evolution with advanced technology has changed the lifestyle of humans.

In the year 1983, the Motorola Company launched Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. Martin Cooper, one of the Motorola employees, is vastly regarded as the major player in the history of the cell phonesThe mobile phone was considered the first to arrive in the market despite it being very big according to todays standards. The Motorola phone, very costly, was the pop culture simple. The phone was all over from high school students to the people on streets.

Mobile phone development can be viewed as mobile generations. SALZ, P. A. & MORANZ (2013) explain that there are three generations of mobile evolution. The generations are 1G, 2G and 3G. The 1G refers to analogue one. 2G refers to the digital generation cell phones while 3G mobile phones are the third generation mobiles. The 3G cell phone gives us the multimedia form of communication. The introduction of the 3G mobile devices IMT 2000 is the definition of ITU of 3G. 4G or fourth generation is the advanced study of IMT being studied by ITU. 6.5 billion People which is half of the worlds population use a cell phone. The ratio has increased from two billion 2 years ago.

The growth and usage of mobile phone relies on the type of software in use. Currently, there are several operating systems being used in the making of cell phone gadgets. The Symbian operating system took a vast 46.6 per cent of the smart phone market share in the September 2008. Apple took 17.3 per cent with its unique iPhone OS (iOS). RIM had 15.3 per cent of the market share while Microsoft OS had 13.5 per cent. Other operating systems included Palm, Google android, MontaVista, Savaje Qualcomms BREW and Linux.

Network providers decreased the mobile rates in early 2000. This prompted the increase in mobile phone usage.

NESSEN (1957) clearly indicates in his book that communication was the main purpose of mobile phone invention, but it was later upgraded to offer several applications like GPS, camera, calculator and games. MCWHERTER & GOWELL (2012)tell us that the mobile gadget was enhanced further to provide internet (browsing).

AVOLA & RAASCH (2013) suggested that the emergence of GSM type of Digital Network meant the cell phones operated by a SIM card would boost the popularity of mobile phones all over the world. Additional technologies like integrated circuits, microchips and better performing networks prompted the introduction of the 2nd Generation phones. The 2G had improved battery technologies and weight less that the 1G generation phones. The analogue transmission media systems were replaced by digital media transmission systems.

LUMSDEN (2013) argued in his book that byy the end of 1999, it became apparent to download the media content from mobile phones. This spelled the introduction of packed data switching. This paved way for the third generation phones. In the book OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY by RICHARDSON& DIEHL (1961) the term means Data Packed Switching, is the electronic splitting up of the data into bundles. The data bundles can be received or be sent as a single unit.

HARTMANN, ROSSLER & HOFLICH (2008) stated that mobile computing came about as a result of PCS (Personal Communication Service). Mobile computing is the creation, collection, processing and storage of information management system platforms. The management platforms are free from all cell phones of temporal and special constraints. The cell phone evolution has its roots in the personal mobility services and the wireless technology. Mobile phone owners and users can get information, access databases and manipulate data through the cell phones. GIFFORD (2012) proposed that the mobile phones have the power to compete with computer technologies in terms of multiple data communication protocols.

With increasing innovation, cell phone data storage power and phone processing power will compete several computers. AVOLA & RAASCH (2013) proposed that the result will be massive advantage in terms of efficiency and service delivery. In addition, the increasing cost of globalization and efficiency will render more business activities dependent on mobile computing. With the emergence of forth Generation mobile phones in conjunction with cloud computing, mobile gadgets will become more powerful. It is a dream of any young person to own or operate a mobile phone so as to enjoy the latest technology on that mobile phone.
