Introduction
The daily activities of a regular college student can be a hurdle for many to balance, especially on academics, personal life, and a part-time job. Given the difficulties students come across in their academic journey since the first day at school, back before the mother teaches her child different colors, it would essential to write a personal biography. In this autobiographical narrative, I will focus on my educational history; telling the story of my learning and professional trajectory; that is full of twists and turns for the essence of exploration, sharing, and learning. For a typical college student like me, the paper underscores the sophisticated and dynamic dimension of my being and becoming in the academic journey (Robinson, 2018).
It explores the profound dimension of one unique experience in the educational background whereby I had a clash with my professor for missing the final exam due to unavoidable circumstances. In the instance, I felt betrayed that my situation would not have been considered and hence in my studying journey autobiography, I decided to explore the aspect of why teachers need to take into account the psychological conditions of the students.
Unavoidable Circumstances
I missed the final exams in one of the units due to unavoidable circumstances, my brother had passed on and I needed to be there personally in the entire process of the sendoff. Due to the clashing of events between my academics and personal life, unfortunately, I was unable to undertake the final exam and my Professor would not understand my circumstances. The bitterness and failure in accomodating my psychological needs drove me in deciding to quit the university course and I even failed to attend my scheduled classes for one week. Through my classmates, the college Dean came to learn of what had transpired and made the personal decision to solve the matter.
Hence, I got a phone call from the Dean requesting me to meet him in his office to look into the matter. After meeting, we discussed and resolved the underlying matter in which he allowed me to take the exam. Therefore, inasmuch as the problem was resolved, I still feel the whole issue right from the start has so much weight on my educational history and hence, the reason why I chose to explore the matter as part of my unique experience. Lecturers need to comprehend and take into consideration the psychological conditions of the students rather than making the educational journey cumbersome whilst the circumstances can be sorted out (Fernandez, 2017).
Lecturer Student Relationship
Therefore, there is an essentiality in examining the significance of the lecturer-student relationship for the overall development of the students. Unfortunately, little is known about these relationships and the effects on the academic and personal lives of students (Kelchtermans, 2017). In internalizing the lecturer-student relationship, we can deduce information from the Transactional Model of Stress that was first written by Dr. Richard Lazarus in1966 that focused on stress and coping (Split, Koomen & Thijs, 2011). Based on the theory in comprehending interpersonal relationships between the lecturer and student, it is postulated that lecturers have the primary requirement for relatedness with the different students during lectures and out of lectures (Li, Chen & Lai, 2018). Lazarus asserted that lecturers internalize numerous experiences with students in representational relationship models in guiding emotional responses in day to day running of affairs and interactions that guide emotional responses.
Conclusion
From a broad perspective of English language education, there is a wide scope of realities that detail the educational journey of students (Harrington, Flint & Healey, 2014). Every reality coming from a collection of paths and experiences plays a vital role in the practice of individual students. Accordingly, autographical narratives centered on the educational history of students is a major source of inspiration for students as they can document their educational journey up to date and express their emotions at different stages of the process. Therefore, there is the need to dig deeper into the field in understanding student perspectives in the educational journey.
