Historical and Social Context
Audio critique for Jazz music covers many elements, such as the historical and social context of the repertoire, musical elements, and performance presentation. This section of the assignment focuses on the historical and social context of the repertoire. The standard live recorded jazz identified was CCM Jazz night with Gerald Wilson. Different historical contexts made it easy to understand the song or the type of music played at the concert. But before that, it would be crucial to learn or to define the historical context to explain and examine the show thoroughly. Historical context may be defined as all relevant factors to understanding and representing a song. Here at the jazz concert, it was crucial to look at the historical context of the repertoire. And some of the original historical contexts of the collection learned at the show are pitch, rhythm, dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. In the context of the pitch, there was the lower and higher pitch, which indicates the historical context of jazz music in the concert. The more upper and lower pitch associates well with the musical melodies. It suggests that it was a celebration as melodies align perfectly with the type of pitch played. It was also clear that the pitch governed melody and harmony, indicating the historical context of the concert even further, which was mentioned before.
In the social context of repertoire, it is crucial to discuss the circumstances that formed the setting in the concert to understand the exact social context. Mood defined the social setting in the background, and of course, there were different experiences as defined by the type of mood exposed. The kind or maybe called classification of the atmosphere was energetic as the intensity and pitch identified it. The intensity was very high, something that makes the performance live, and the tone was medium. The pitch based on social context defined or demonstrated the social and historical context that gave the concert a real description of the mood.
Musical Elements
Musical elements are crucial because they determine the basics of performances, enabling people to learn to use timbre to understand the moods of music, tone, and resonance. The main musical elements that were introduced or focused at are timbre, empathy, and call and response. It is crucial to define and understand these terms before adequately describing them in the identified jazz concert as they are critical elements to understanding jazz music.
Timbre may be defined as character or quality of a musical sound or voice connected to pitch and intensity that describe vocal tone. Each note of the music came as a sophisticated tone that they contained more than one frequency. Those notes produced by instruments were clear and harmonic, defining the musical sound's character or quality at the concert. Of course, drums were also used, and they described the type and quality of the sound wave. In most cases, drums come with sound, and there is an element of frequency that significantly varies in rates. It may be defined as if there were many musical colors because of the mixture of sounds heard and a combination of frequencies, which was not as separate as sounds.
Based on the context of empathy, I was able to listen to music with the most definite music affinity as it was part of the feeling that was experienced during the time I listened to the concert. All components or musical elements made it possible to listen to music with the most influential musical affinity. There was also a pleasurable feeling that was part of what was experienced in that moment of the live recorded jazz music (Nghiem. 13).
The pleasurable feeling was also a reported empathy the describe the musical element just identified. There was also another musical element noted, which was call and response. Call and response in music are defined as a response of a musical phrase that may be instrumental or vocal. The type of call and response in that concert was helpful to call and response directed by instruments, and correctly, it was pitched in wave generated. Some phrases were generated musically and were responded instrumentally by those who played those drums and musical and other musical instruments.
Presentation of the Performance
Different factors are enlightened in the presentation of performance, such as video or the album covered. At the presentation of performance, it is essential to look at the musical sound and video presentation. The presentation of the music video was on point, as movements covered the majority of what the lyrics included or said. Circles were directed by the artist to convey a specified meaning, which is crucial in the determination of music meaning or words and movements.
The video presentation appeared as if it was something that was planned a long time ago. Drum sets were on point and raised and lowered the move made by the instrumentalists saw pitches. There is also another factor of the music video or of the album completed in the concert, which is participatory. In the context of participatory, there are primary objectives for music videos to have in mind. They are a time of music, such as six-minute, avant-garde, seductive, and surprising. These elements were all made viable because people or participants were live, and it was amazing. Every moment was compatible with the show, and as earlier mentioned, every move meant to convey the musical message.
Relation to Materials Learned
Relating what has been observed to materials learned in the course, there are differences and similarities, but the majority of factors appear similar to the materials learned in the class. Factors to compare to the materials learned in the course are genres, styles, and harmony. In the context of the type, there are essential elements similar to what was studied in the class, such as blues, improvisation, swing, and creative freedom. Improvisation in jazz is unique due to the use of the blue scales. It is also crucial to learn types of jazz genres to relate what has been observed to what has been in the course. There is acid jazz evident in this type of presentation. It is characterized by combined elements of soul music, funk, disco, lopping beats, and modal harmony. Essential is something that has been covered in the course while studying types of genre, which is also relating to the kind of style included in the live concert described.
In the context of style, numerous jazz styles have been employed in the concert, such as smooth jazz, equally learned in the course. Smooth jazz relies on or is made part of the rhythm, and it grooves instead of improvisation. Smooth jazz is a combination of styles which something evident in the jazz concert identified as it picks or matches precisely what has been learned in the course. The type or style of jazz used in the context was smooth as other several types of fusion and layers of synthesizers and trumpets. All these layers give the musical or style played at the concert a real picture of what has been the course content. In the context of harmony, jazz music demonstrates the theory and practice of how cord plays. Like other thinks addressed in class, jazz music bears certain similarities to traditional methods in the western region, including many chord progressions (Zeman. 23).
It is crucial because it defines the harmony of the music employed since it is the context or the base that describe harmony and feelings in the music. There is also the incorporation of minor and major scales for chordal constructions that were once learned in the course. The relationship shows one similarity in the style and harmony in the jazz concert and the course contents learned.
Overall Impression
Overall, I liked the entire concert, and everything made part of the play because most of the elements were considered as much as performance is made viable. Some of the items or factors that were performed correctly were musical elements and how they fit the context, overall presentation of the video, social context of the performance. In the context of historical and social context, the performance incorporated all essential elements that would make it easy for a view to learn the music and understand whatever message was being passed.
It is a crucial element to consider and to love in performance since it was something and individuals were looking at and found it. There was also an aspect of musical factors such as timbre and empathy and how the musical performance was generally adopted. Musical lyrics and production appeared to be inline as the performance demonstrated all the essential points of the message. All these made it the reason why I liked the entire performance.
