It is apparent that religion dominates the lives of different people in society. Religion is all about the collection of beliefs that can be used in the explanation of cause, nature as well as the purpose of the universe. This makes religion be viewed as the cultural system of a given set of behaviors, practices, views across the world, scared texts, places that are deemed to be holy, ethics as well as the societal organization, relating humanity, or the order of existence. Apparently, there are different forms of religion in the world with the major religions including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Atheism. It can be contended that religion has been integral when it comes to shaping peoples lives and their general way of living, as far as their beliefs and explanation of supernatural powers are concerned.
Christianity
Christianity is considered to be a monotheistic religion, whose foundation is mainly in the Old Testament and the Jesus Christ. Christian holds strong believes that Jesus, who is the son of God is part of the Holy Trinity, that is, God the Father, God the son and God the holy Spirit. The majority of Christians faith is firmly placed on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Protestants who are the offshoot Christianity believe that salvation emanates solely from God. On the part of Catholic and Orthodox Christians, they perceive salvation as faith to Jesus Christ as well as the practice of good works that were demonstrated in the ministry of Jesus Christ.
The Christians scriptures come from the bible, which is a holy book that is divided into two sections: the Old Testament and the New Testament. In this religion, there are various practices that are observed by its believers, which set them apart from other religions. This includes a celebration of major events such as Christmas, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Passover and other practices. All these practices are said to be significant when it comes to strengthening their faith to their Supreme Being.
Islam
Just like Christianity, Islam is also a monotheistic religion, whose foundation is based on the teachings of Muhammad, who is considered to be the final prophet of God on earth. Muslims contend that Quran, which is the holy book for Muslims, was revealed to Muhammad by God, Himself. This makes Muslims view Quran and Sunnah as the sole sources and origin of Islam. Islam is characterized by two denominations: The Sunni and the Shia, which makes Muslims be identified on the basis of these two denominations.
Muslims also have significant religious rituals and practices that are meant to strengthen their faith in Allah. They include Confession of faith (Shahada), Ritual prayer (Salat), Alms tax (Zakat), pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) and Fasting, especially during the holy month of Ramadan (Sawm).
Hinduism
Hinduism as a religion does not have a specific founder since it is characterized a corporation of diverse beliefs and traditions. Most of the Hindus hail from India and Nepal. Apparently, Hinduism is encompassed by a vast collection of scriptures, which are known for expounding on theology, philosophy as well as mythology; with the sole purpose of providing its believers not only with the spiritual inspirations but also spiritual guidance, when it comes to dharma (religious living). The recurrent themes as far as the Hindu beliefs are concerned to include Dharma, Samsara, Karma, Moksha, and multiple Yogas. Unlike Islam and Christianity, Hinduism accepts either monotheism, polytheism, monism and sin some instances, atheism.
Other notable religions include Buddhism, Atheism, Judaism, Jainism, Shinto and many others. One of the common element that runs across all these religions is having particular cultural religious practices and beliefs that set them apart. It is through these diverse religious practices depicted by different religions that have since distinguished people on the basis of their respective religions.
