Introduction
Human resource management concerns an organization's activities to cater to an organization's needs through the work of its employees. Excellent human resource management undertakings enable an organization to operate in harmony with its employees. There is change management associated with human resource management, which should be done in collaboration with the employees to minimize any undesirable outcomes. Unionization is another issue that is essential in human resource management. The employees need their interests to be championed in the best way, highlighting the need for unionization.
Various Issues
Various issues have been highlighted in the case, which is centered ion the management of employees. First, there is change management, which highlights an organization's activities to change its core operations. The organizations try to change their operations, which was not received by the employees with approval. Therefore, there is a highlight for the need of proper change management systems in the organization. An organization needs an elaborate change management plan, which should help the organization to initiate a new course of action with minimal disruption. Furthermore, there is a need for employee involvement in making decisions that affect them. When they are consulted, there is a higher chance of reducing their resistance to the changes instituted. When employees are included in an organization's decision-making, they help in drafting a plan that is consistent with their interests. Therefore, that is a source of motivation, which will most likely lead to the organization's success in operating activities. However, when the organization does not incorporate its employees' interests and views, there is a high risk of demotivation and resistance to the changes. In the case of change management, there is a risk of achieving adverse results from the change designed to help the organization. Therefore, it is noted that employees' role in an organization's strategic plan is essential from the case.
Unionization is the other issue that was highlighted in the case. Employees need union members to ensure their rights and interests are protected as they work. Without unionization, the employees may be mistreated by their employers. Union membership is meant to benefit the employees' welfare, not the union or the organization (Li et al., 2019). Therefore, when a union lacks objectives that are consistent with employees' interests, there is the risk of resistance to representation by employees. Therefore, employees need to have their interests championed by the union, which will increase the chances of satisfaction by the employees. In the case, it is noted that organizations are opposed to the idea of their employees unionizing. The opposition comes from the organizations' selfish interests, based on their selfish objectives that are inconsistent with the employees'. However, not all unions are based on the interests of the employees in organizations. There are some which side with organizations' management to cater to their interests. Therefore, unions should balance their priorities when it comes to employee representation. There should be goals to help employees have a better working environment, which will enhance satisfaction in their duties.
Recommendations
Various issues caused inefficiency in the organizations, as seen from the case. Most of the problems were caused by a lack of collaboration between the employees and the planning organizations. The organizations would have avoided the issues if they had incorporated employees in decision making. Therefore, it is recommended that employees' representatives be invited to have a say in their plans. Furthermore, there is an issue with unionization. The goal of unionization is to increase the satisfaction of employees as they work. Although the unions have their goals and objectives, there are the employees at the center of it all. The unions have to cater to the interests of the employees first before their own. That validates their representation efforts, which are their core operating activity. Without representation, then their purpose of existence is neglected. Therefore, the unions should institute plans that are aimed at balancing organizational capabilities and the interests of employees. Therefore, uniformity of preferences between the organizations, employees, and unions can be seen as an essential component of organizations.
Conclusion
In an organization, employees are the center of all operations because they actualize and facilitate operating activities. Therefore, it is recommended that they are considered the center of all the activities; through incorporating their decisions to implement plans. When the employees are satisfied, organizations' welfare will be catered for effectively, increasing the chances of organizational success. Conflicts in an organization, in most cases, are caused by a lack of uniformity of preferences. Therefore, to align the various parties' priorities, there is a need for collaboration, which will iron out any differences.
