The health and fitness of an individual possess enormous benefits in enhancing and maintaining the cerebral environment resulting in optimal cognitive function. According to Urology of Virginia (2019), health and fitness significantly improve brain functionality in terms of thinking and memory. Notably, health and fitness affect cognitive functions both indirectly and directly. In adults, fitness reduces cases of cognitive dysfunction. Therefore, health and fitness that maintain an optimal cerebral environment result in maximum cognitive functioning.
Staying healthy and fit plays a fundamental role in preventing middle cognitive complications by enhancing the flow of blood in the brain. Thus, increasing the rate of oxygen supply to the brain leads to improved cognitive functioning (Godman, 2018). Furthermore, exercises keep the heart pumping hence the development in the size of the hippocampus, which occurs as part of the cerebral involved in cognitive functions such as learning and memory.
Moreover, health and fitness affects cognitive functions both indirectly and directly. As per Urology of Virginia (2019), cognitive functions like thinking and memory get influenced by the health and fitness of an individual. For example, exercises that keep a person healthy have the capability of reduction in inflammation of cerebral and stimulation of the production of the growth hormones cerebral. Hence, maintaining healthy conditions of the cerebral cells and blood vessels leads to a favorable environment for cognitive functioning (Godman, 2018). However, health and fineness indirectly improve cognitive functioning due to sleep and mood improvement. Godman (2018) explains that lack of sleep and factors such as depression, anxiety, and stress that fitness prevents impairment of cognitive functioning. Equally, parts brain involved in memory and thinking like “medial temporal cortex and prefrontal cortex” possess larger size in individuals who are healthy and fit compared to those who never conduct exercises (Gomes-Osman et al., 2018). Such an increase in volume in such a critical area ensures optimal cerebral environment for cognitive function.
Health and fitness further protects the cognitive functionality of the cerebral such as memory and rational. For instance, in older adults, regular fitness activities offer a crucial protection of brain memory as well as its functions (Gomes-Osman et al., 2018). As per Gomes-Osman et al. (2018), fitness prevents the development of the impaired cognitive conditions more so in older adults. As a result, exercises minimizes risks of cognitive dysfunction such as dementia which results in the decline of mental ability for proper functioning.
To conclude, health and fitness play a significant role in optimal cognitive functioning. Notably, individuals who are healthy and fit have minimal chances of developing middle cognitive complications through an enhanced flow of blood in the brain. Besides, an increased rate of blood around the body implies maximum oxygen supply to the cerebral, which improves cognitive functions like thinking and memory. Furthermore, exercises affect the cognitive functions indirectly and directly. A sufficient flow of blood and oxygen in the cerebral enhances the development and growth of the brain cells, which creates favorable conditions for the cognitive functions. Moreover, in older adults, health and fitness lead to minimization of risks related to the development of cognitive dysfunction. Therefore, maintaining a favorable cerebral environment through health and fitness significantly improves and leads to optimal cognitive functioning.
