Introduction
Adolescence is the period in which a transition from childhood to adulthood is observed in a young person. Multiples of changes occur to a young person's body and to the way they view the world (Santrock, 2019). Therefore, the paper seeks to discover how the life of a child changes from the onset of puberty to middle childhood and adolescent development.
How I View Adolescents
Adolescents are seen by society as a nuisance because of the way they carry themselves and the demeanor they possess. It has been tough trying to figure out how to handle adolescents since they are in a phase in their lives where they crave attention and, at the same time, want to be left alone (Santrock, 2019). It is essential that they are understood and that their needs are taken care of despite their being unsure of what they want. Since brain development is still in its early stages, it is hard for them to process what is going on in the world. Therefore, being that they are in-between childhood and adulthood, there needs to be a compromise by adults the society at large (Eggen & Kauchak, 2020). Young adolescents need direction, and if they do not get the solace they so much need, they will fall into the trap of bad company and misdemeanor.
Ideas about School, Classrooms, and Teaching
In the modern world, brain development and adolescence are taught in schools. Many adolescents are trying to figure out what they want with their lives at this stage of life, and therefore, they keep on experimenting (Eggen & Kauchak, 2020). Sex education is one of the essential classes that adolescents need to take through, being that puberty intensifies the sexual aspect of adolescents. Through this education, they will learn the importance of abstinence and how to handle sexual nature situations. For the longest time, sex has been one of the leading voices that adolescents partake in, especially in the modern world (Eggen & Kauchak, 2020). Access to the internet makes it even harder for parents to control the content that their children are exposed to, and therefore, they consume a lot of adult content. Being that their bodies are evolving and their brain capacity in terms of broader thinking is increasing at this stage, they need the right guidance from school and home (Eggen & Kauchak, 2020). The topic must be well covered in schools to avoid situations of unwanted pregnancies and reduce the chances of young persons contracting sexually transmitted diseases.
Aside from sexual education, they also need to be cautioned against the dangers of drug abuse and alcohol consumption because they tend to experiment a lot with drugs (Turner, 2017). The liquor causes them not to make sound decisions, and at the end of the day, they could end up making rash decisions like having unprotected sex and thus getting unwanted pregnancies that will ruin their lives. At the puberty stage, both females' and males' hormones are raging (Turner, 2017). For the male species, it’s the testosterone hormone that plays a major part in male pubertal development while for females, the hormone responsible is estrogen. Therefore, Biology plays an important role in terms of puberty development of young persons,' and it is credited for the physical changes that occur in both men and women at the early stages of puberty and as it progresses to the late stages of adolescence.
