During the study, each of the video conferences concentrated on a particular theme, including music, storytelling, magic tricks, nutrition, as well as physical activity. In their analysis, Samarkandy and Abbas (2020) noted that there was a positive impact of arts on the well-being of young individuals.
After conducting six video conferences for the children, significant information was obtained regarding their responses to various themes reflected through the webinars. Although some questions arise regarding the effectiveness of the new method, numerous researches have proved that video conferencing plays an important role in assessing the status of a patient. For instance, one may ask, “Do the symptom severity ratings diagnosed through webinars provide similar ratings to those recorded during physical meetings?” According to Sharp et al. (2011), many psychiatrists have proven that most of their clients have responded positively to their experiences that were enabled through video conferencing. Moreover, the authors added that communication between the specialists and the clients is more effective through webinars than physical contact.
Moreover, during the APPALLINK project, it was noted that through engagement with 39 patients, video-conferencing helped in keeping health records more effectively than the traditional method of assessment. The APPALLINK project was developed to provide services to various patients in Southwestern Virginia who suffered from bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other psychological illnesses. Also, in his studies, Zaylor (1999) indicated that patients who had been monitored through video conferencing in the University of Kansas Medical Center had stabilized over time. In another research, Zaylor et al. (2001) noted that 49 patients who had been engaged through the closed-circuit interactive television (IATV) showed a positive reaction to the use of the platform.
According to Samarkandy and Abbas (2020), COVID-19 had a great impact on the lives of quarantined children in Saudi Arabia. However, through the use of webinars with different themes, the young individuals were relieved as they enjoyed interacting with other people. For instance, the physical activity webinar helped the children to train on aerobic exercises and also manage the vigorous intensity of some games. The authors also indicated that through the video-engagement, the concentration levels of the audience increased throughout the period. From the health perspective, physical activity helps in reducing depression in people of all ages. The music webinar, on the other hand, showed that singing and dancing is one of the ways of minimizing anxiety during the pandemic. Being Muslims, the children enjoyed religious instrumentals, which also marked Eid Al-Fitr. According to Samarkandy and Abbas (2020), the magical tricks webinar played a crucial role in improving the psychological condition of the children. The sessions had educational interventions as they provoked interests and surprises.
During the study, it was established that the humor that was reflected in one of the webinars reduced the sensation of pain the children endured during quarantine (Samarkandy & Abbas, 2020). Besides, research shows that laughter stimulates the production of opioids, which enhances human attachment due to neurochemical processes. Humorous programs were designed to grasp the attention of young individuals. Also, through video conferences, the children had a chance to express their emotions through art. According to the World Health Organization, art is crucial because it facilitates healing and disease prevention. People use art to show their uniqueness, reduce anxiety, and also minimize the risk of behavioral disorders.
Conclusion
In their closing remarks, Samarkandy and Abbas (2020) noted that physical activity, magic tricks, art, humor, and storytelling helped reduce the psychological impact of quarantine for the children. Moreover, online webinars ensured that young individuals were entertained despite being separated from the rest of the world. In my analysis, the conclusion is supported by the findings because it is based on the various programs that were implemented during the quarantine. Besides, the use of video conferencing helps in engage psychological patients is effective because it allows healthcare providers to assess their conditions effectively.
