Deuteronomy chapter 6 feels like one of the essential sections of the Old Testament. The critical theme expressed by Moses in Deuteronomy 6 is the need to pass the profound virtues and truths of living with God to the Children of Yahweh. God is worried that the people of Israel may forget his commandments and fall back into their sinful ways. Moses, a messenger of the LORD, passes essential commandments that must drive the people of God and the essence of giving the good news to all the people of all nations. Moses is imploring the people of Israel to remember Yahweh proactively and teach His commandments diligently. God is thereby talking to His people to become ambassadors of his work to all of God´s children throughout the world. Regarding diligence in Deuteronomy 6, God-talk of the laws “….when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy: 6:7). Above all, the children of Israel must not forget Yahweh themselves by teaching his word among nations.

The rules in Deuteronomy 6 reference God´s redemption in our spiritual lives. In this passage, the primary religious theme expressed is the commandment of the Love of the LORD. Deuteronomy 6:5 implores us to “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” This theme of love expresses the eternal principle that the LORD is enlightening us with for our daily lives. The love expressed here is one that transcends our natural dispositions. Moses reemphasizes the oneness of the LORD our God and the importance of declaring our undying and holistic love to Him. To emphasize its importance, the verse is reemphasized in the new testament in (Matt. 22:37, Mark 12:29–30 and Luke 10:27).

Application Practices from Deuteronomy 6:1-9

The universal truth expressed in the passage revolves around the love and redemption of the people of God. In today´s life, we must aim to profess the commandments of God´s love to the people on earth and our Children. We must, as such, practice a loving and obedient lifestyle and a missionary fellowship while declaring His commandments and redemption to the world. The people of God must furthermore, live with the commandments of God in our hearts. When teaching love and redemption to our children, we must always remember the love God used throughout the bible to call us back to repentance. The death and resurrection of Jesus was the essential instance of redemption that later enforces our belief in the reclamation and love we share with the LORD.

Our daily lifestyles must always, thereby, entail a daily commitment to live by the teachings of Moses and obey the commandments and values expressed in Deuteronomy. We must also commit always to declare our love of God to the world and practice our devotions to demonstrate our sacrifice to follow the LORD´s teachings and commandments. These commandments must serve purposes in our lives that are higher than simple dos and don’ts. Instead, Christians must fully live in the light of these commandments and change our values and virtues based on the teachings in the chapter.

In summary, Deuteronomy 6:1-9 beseeches our Christian faith not only to keep and live by the commands of the LORD (especially of love and obedience) but to proclaim and profess these commandments to our children and the world. In our day to day lives, we may practice the teachings of this passage by practicing our composite love for the LORD and respect for his commandments.
