Evidence-based practice is an essential practice in the health sector. It ensures that every patient gets the required medication according to the kind of condition that the patient is experiencing. It is said that evidence-based practices combine the best evidence available so that they guide the nurse on the optimal nursing care that is the best to enhance safety and quality of life (Ellis, 2019). As a supervising officer to a team of nurses, the officer is tasked with managing all the staff instead of nurses, overseeing the patients to ensure that the patient receives the necessary care, and ensuring that every nurse carries out the best practices by following the established policies and procedures.
The supervisor is also charged with assigning the nurses duties, and hence this is evident when every nurse is assigned to the patient. I will come up with a solution for the new nurse by explaining to her about the evidence-based practice that is available in the organization and can be used to help diagnose the patients through searching for the symptom. I will train on how to use the EBP to extract information.
List of Sources
Evidence-based practices get extracted from various sources, and it is essential to note that these sources are vital and give the best solution to the problem that is at hand. The sources can include websites, guidelines, journals, facility policies, and search engines. The website is said to be rich in any information since almost everyone is said to be able to post their essential data. When searched accurately, the nurse can extract relevant information to solve the problem. Facility policies tend to show how to go about a situation so that it is solved adequately (Jamieson, Whyte & McCall, 2019). Thirdly, the journal explains various kinds of diagnoses and how to handle them. Therefore, it will be a good source and can get extracted from libraries. I will direct the nurse to use journals as the best source of information.
To complete this clinical setting, I will advise the nurse to use the available computer lab that is full of relevant information regarding the diagnosis. In addition to that, the computer lab helps in searching for any info, both journals, websites, guideline, and policies that are relevant in the organization and relayed upon. To encourage nurses to use this form of resources, I will use face to face communication where I will train them on how to get the information that they want. I will be interested in searching for the causes of diarrhea since it is related to a clinical problem and can assist in showing the nurse how to search.
After showing the nurses where to extract information, I will advise the nurse to use:
- Website -It often is noted that databases and websites store relevant information about a particular aspect that one may be searching for (Boltz et al., 2020). I will choose the website as the diagnosis is not known to the nurse. It is also easy to access.
- Online databases – They are rich information and can be used to extract evidence faster.
- Hospital records – They are readily available takes time to extract the required evidence (Pallari & Lewison, 2020).
- Policy database - The extraction of content in these databases is said to take more time since one has to scan through everything.
- National database – these are database that one has to travel so that the person extract information that he or she needs. They seem to be costly (Jolley, 2020).
