Tourism segmentation is the trend of identifying different tourist destinations and preparing services that suit the tourist and the area itself (Ernst & Dolnicarl.2018). It is an important tool in improving the tourism industry. There are different methods of tourism segmentation all of which has advantages and disadvantage. There is also a different argument as to why should the tourism market be segmented. Some think it is not good to have the tourism market segmented. “Market segmentation, environmental activities and environmental behavior in rural tourism” is an article that discusses the different issues surrounding the topic of market tourism segmentation. This paper will provide a report on how the article is about.
The article provides a different analysis of its topic. The analysis raises some important issues that need to be considered based on a study and analysis of data. The authors of the article saw the need to provide information about tourism after seeing the increase in rural tourism and the potential that has in the economy. There is a need to compare the traditional way of the tourism industry and the new way where there are arrangements to classify the activity in different ways and attention to every spot. Environmental behavior has also been a concern in tourism, and it contributes to the diverse niches in tourism. There are different things discussed in the article with great importance that can bring a positive impact on the rural tourism sector.
The analysis is of great use to the organizers of the rural tourism sector. It will enable them to understand the nature of tourism in a certain place at a particular time. The analysis will make them have plans on how to serve people differently as they like to be served in different attraction areas. The analysis also provides the most important research about the market in tourism. The research has come up with unique recommendations that will boost business competitiveness and increase its traffic over time. Therefore the analysis has useful information on the market, planning, and environmental behavior as far as tourism is concerned.
The analysis presented in the article has its strengths and weaknesses. First, the analysis is presented in some different points of view which gives it some sense of inconsistency. It focuses on rural tourism and interest in the rural area. The focus on the rural areas as explained in the article is the cultural practices in the rural area whereas there are other different reasons for rural destinations. Some people head to rural destinations not only for cultural reasons but for other reasons like having the experience of life outside the cities and towns. Some head there to have their own free time with little disruptions and have some sense of privacy. Some people want an environment where no person is going to judge them, and they will have an opportunity to do what they want in peace. All the different people have different reasons for traveling, and the analysis cannot be based on the cultural reasons that are mainly found in t rural areas.
It is okay to concentrate on the major part that makes up the place a tourist attraction site but it is also important to expound on the other aspects that may have contributed to that site being favorable to people. The article has clearly explained the different reasons why people visit the rural area and explained the need to design a good reception on the destination that will suit the people coming to that place. The only problem is that not all people come to a place for the same reason. There is a need to exhaust the different reasons that make a place a tourist destination and have an analysis of how to make that place suitable for the different audiences.
The analysis in the article is a useful document that can be used to have a better tourism reception. Different highlighted things need to be done by the analysis made in the article. It has useful information related to market segmentation in rural tourism with the support of a full study that proves its findings and recommendations. The article has analyzed the market in tourism in a very informed manner by explaining every aspect separately and providing possible solutions to the problems. It provides sound argument on why the tourism sector especially covering the rural area need to have different sections where they can serve the tourist separately based on what brought them. The information present in the analysis can help the tourism sector have positive results if they reconsider the analysis.
The analysis covers most of the things that are of more concern to the rural tourism sector and how they should be segmented. However, there are a few areas that could have been explained better, for instance, the article did not focus on defining what segmentation of tourism mean and its impacts. It assumed that whoever reading the article knows what it means or the article targets a specific audience. It could have been better if they had defined tourism segmentation and explain its importance as an introductory part before moving to the analysis part and the actual study. The article may be difficult to understand by a person who has zero knowledge of tourism and the terms used.
In conclusion, the article covers an explanation of the analysis of the rural tourism sector and the need to be specific in the areas of concern. It has provided the analysis of a study, and its recommendation that will be useful to the concerned sector.
