Introduction
Stakeholders are people who have interests in the outcomes of any project. For this change project, stakeholder support is necessary for successful change. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the internal and external stakeholders and ways to get their support.
Internal Stakeholders
The internal stakeholders for this project include the hospital itself and the ventilator unit staff. The support of the stakeholders is necessary because they are the ones who provide direct care to the patients. Nelson (2014) discussed the concept of best practice in nursing, which involves the use of evidence and quality care. Also, Halm (2010) stated that administrative support and leadership is necessary for research to achieve the best outcomes. Since my capstone project involves the use of the evidence-based practice, the hospital and the unit staff have a stake in the project because by applying evidence-based solutions, they will provide quality care.
External Stakeholders
The external stakeholders for this project include the financial organizations, community organizations, and patients. The support of the three stakeholders is necessary because it would provide resources and enhance participation during the change. Regarding patients, according to Jeffs et al. (2013), nurses should understand that evidence improves patient satisfaction and their health outcomes. Patients who are mechanically-ventilated have a stake in this project because they need to receive the best care. Furthermore, community organizations including health care providers have a stake in the project because they will need to provide quality care. Additionally, financial organizations will provide the funds necessary for the success of the project.
Stakeholders’ Support
I will secure the stakeholders’ support in ways such as communication and dialogue. Dialogue would help both internal and external stakeholders to understand how the change is going to positively impact the process of providing quality care. Bridges (2015) indicated that research at the bedside broadens nurses’ understanding of interventions that can help improve care. For example, emphasizing the use of evidence-based solutions and how they will reduce VAP infections may encourage the hospital and ventilator unit staff to support the change. Communication with external stakeholders would spread the word on the need for the change and how it would improve the care provided to them.
Conclusion
Overall, both internal and external stakeholders will be vital to the success of my change project. Their support is necessary because they provide resources, participation, and skills necessary for project implementation. Stakeholders will contribute to the successful adoption of evidence in the health facility.
