Introduction

The success of an individual or a business begins with the mindset, whether they are optimists or pessimists. The way people approach challenges in life and business determines how they handle it and the eventual outcome. Jeff Bezos is a typical example of how failure can make or break an individual. At the time of establishing Amason.com, Bezos faced rivalry from competitors and Wall Street journalists (Byrne, 2011). He would be trolled for having unpractical ideas and was termed as a fraud for his diminishing stock. However, Bezos did not allow the ideas of the public to ruin his ambitions since his mindset was different (Byrne, 2011). Whereas most people viewed his business from the diminishing stock, he saw it from a perspective of increasing wealth in terms of shares.

Similarly, every entrepreneur has to see his business from an angle that is beneficial to them. I am an optimistic person focused on achieving my goals with the principle of autonomy. Thus, I would take a similar decision and quit my job to pursue my dream as long as I have the resources, will, and support system I need.

Risk-Taking

Another key feature of Jeff Bezos is risk-taking. He quit his lucrative job at a financial firm in New York City to pursue a venture that he was not sure it would succeed. Bezos wars are driven by passion and innovation (Byrne, 2011). As a young boy, he had invented a solar cooker, baking-pan alarm, and gate closer. Therefore, when he approached his wife of one year with the idea, he received immense support. It is a risk that not many people are willing to take. Even Bezos' boss at the financial firm contemplated about it, stating that the idea was bright for someone who did not have a good job at his disposal. Similarly, an entrepreneur deserves a risk-taking mindset. It is better to start and fail than live with an unpractical idea.

Amazon's Mission

Amazon's mission is to be earth's most customer-centric company (Byrne, 2011). However, this is a mission that is beyond amazon itself. In a world where companies hold meetings, make strategies, and decisions without consumer representations, it is easy to forget the needs of the consumer. However, Bezos realized that more profits come with loyal consumers (Byrne, 2011). Therefore, the three things learned from this mission is that being consumer-centric entails low prices, a wide variety of products for selection, and a fast and reliable method of product delivery. Amazon continues to stand out against its competitors for its lower prices and high consumer services.

Beyond Customer Needs

Sometimes you have to look beyond what a customer needs to be successful in business. Jeff Bezos realized this after three years of unsuccessful e-books selling and created 'Kindle' (Byrne, 2011). It was a way of ensuring that a book does not have an old look that is found in physical stores. The glue, ink, or stitches disappear, and the book only shows the author's content. I intent on setting up a business, and this would be one thing to look out for, identifying the exact thing that discourages consumers from existing products or services and replacing them with attractive methods to capture the consumer's attention.

Taking Time Away from the Job

Every entrepreneur deserves some isolation to think over everything. During this time, Bezos thinks and researches on existing business people, competitors, and better ideas to develop his business. Bezos allows himself to be creative without distractions (Byrne, 2011). A good entrepreneur deserves to refresh away from the office and think over everything. I would do this if in business to create time for rational thinking.

Amazon's Failures and Me-too Companies

Amazon has failed several in the past with a good example of the licensed Web search acquired from Google. The company had no traffic for three years of launching Web search and ended up shutting down. Also, auctioning was unsuccessful for Amazon, but Bezos figured third-party selling with fixed prices out of the auctioning experiment (Byrne, 2011). Therefore, it is likely for an entrepreneur to succeed by doing things differently rather than using me0too strategies that other companies already use. Customers always look for uniqueness in an upcoming company.
