I virtually visited the Acropolis in Athens, one of the fascinating Greek monuments that exist today. The Acropolis contains ancient buildings that depict the history of Greece as well as Greek architecture. Some of the Acropolis buildings include the Parthenon and the Erechtheion, among others (Beenhere). The structures served both religious and protection purposes, and have made Greece one of the memorable places for tourists.
The Parthenon so much attracted me because of its beautiful features that are marveling. One of the features that I loved about the Parthenon was the marble walls, the rectangular-shaped floor, and a visible limestone foundation (Beenhere). The structure comprises several columns with larger columns at the corners compared to the other columns (see the figure below). The Parthenon depicts Greek architecture because it does not have right angles nor straight lines, some of the outstanding features of Greek architecture. The Parthenon is a massive building that demanded a lot of skill to construct. Apart from the decorations on structure, such as the statue of Athena, the techniques employed in the construction of the building reflect art. It is also important to note that Athens suffers from earthquakes, and astonishingly, the building has been able to stand the seismic waves for such a long period. However, some features from the images and the videos of the Acropolis that I saw were not very clear. Also, there were more things about the museum that I would like to feel rather than just seeing.
I had always known that the Acropolis is the name of ancient structures found in Athens. After the virtual visit to Acropolis in Athens, I learned that the Acropolis is the name of a rocky hill where the historical buildings such as the Parthenon are located (see the figure below). It is also interesting to note that each building on the Acropolis had its unique features.
According to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the Acropolis of Athens's construction was done under the supervision of a great statesman, Pericles of Athens. The development of the Acropolis began during the festival of Parthenon, to build a temple as an honor to goddess Athena, the ruler of Athens. The notable architects that were hired by the Pericles included Callicrates, Iktinos, and Phidias, one of the finest sculptors who behind the contraction of the statue of Zeus at Olympia. It is further noted that Phidias was the architect in charge of the construction of the Acropolis.
In conclusion, the virtual visit to the Acropolis of Athens was an exciting experience that helped me to learn a lot about the museum. The Acropolis of Athens is one of the fascinating Greek monuments that still exist. One of the famous buildings on the Acropolis is the Parthenon that has beautiful features such as marble walls and a limestone foundation. The Acropolis should not be confused with the Parthenon. The Acropolis is a rocky hill where the ancient buildings such as the Parthenon are located.
