Employees play a fundamental role in the involvement of organizational productivity. As per the details of the article, "Understanding the impact of Employee Involvement on Organizational Productivity: The Moderating Role of Organizational Commitment" Phipps, Prieto and Ndinguri, (2013) it delivers various information concerning employee involvement in organizational productivity. As a primary purpose of the article, it seeks to figure out the different ways meant to increase and boost organizational productivity majorly by including the employees. Moreover, it provides specific elements that reflect on the contexts of organizations and employee involvements. Organizations are encountering challenges and opportunities due to the globalization which is also impacted by the culture of the company as a whole. Although there are numerous elements of organizational culture, the author has delivered a focus on one aspect. The element includes, "the extent to which employees acquire opportunities to participate in the organizational productivity." To address the details of this element, the author explores the aspect by investigating the relationship between the employee involvement (EI) and organizational productivity (OP), and later focus on organizational performance.
According to the author, there are four employee involvement elements which include, power, knowledge, information, and rewards. The author explains the relationship between the elements and their involvement in organizational productivity along with other occurrences such as the effect of these elements on the success of the company. This article relates to the content in this course in diverse ways. First, it increases my awareness concerning the details and extents of employee participation in organizational productivity. Second, it expands my understanding concerning the different ways through which an employee may participate in the overall organizational productivity.
The article derives significant meaning to the findings and content. In consideration of the research of the given material, the content or investigation of the author is based on other similar article written by different authors pertaining the same topic. Its analysis is not based on the primary sources since the author did not conduct primary research but based on the secondary sources. However, in focus on the results and information of the article, the author provides information through which organizations can evaluate their productivity. In most of them, higher sales, profit, and increases output indicate on the organizational productivity while other organizations emphasis on the employee behaviors to evaluate productivity. In striving to understand the employee involvement and organizational productivity, the author also believes that organizational commitment is equally critical.
In the long run, the details of the article suggest that increasing the participation of the employees in an organization can be realized through various interventions. The author also feels that corporates should major on the four elements which enhance the employee participation in organizations. The element of power delivers that the employees need the mandate to make decisions in line with their duties. Giving of authority to employees enhances more productivity in the workplaces especially with the present globalization. On the other hand, the rewards element is critical to the development of a company. It keeps the employee motivation high which enhances productivity at different levels although rewards may derive limitations in various workplaces (Phipps et al., 2013).
There are different flaws in the article since the author does not provide the actual details of the element and their overall involvement in the majority of the organizations. Severally, the author forgets to mention the implications within each component and the issues that may deliver a challenge to the events. With the aim to make the article better, the author should have focused on the research and findings rather than basing the details on assumptions. Also, the article does not provide the specific measures and practices that the employee and management should indulge in to maintain higher organizational productivity. Providing assumptions is easier especially in handling management which as for this case entails employees' organizational productivity; however, the finding is fundamental. Since most of the details are based on prior research, the article includes essential information thus does not leave significant information out. For instance, according to McShane and Von Glinow (2013), organizational behavior shapes the direction of the organization which provides employee participation as an effort in the roles of the individuals focusing on organizational performance which in turn increases organizational productivity (McShane & Von Glinow, 2013).
To sum everything up, the author could expand the results by using quantitative research method rather than basing it on the qualitative research. With the use of quantitative analysis, it would increase the availability of information since it applies the measurable knowledge to deliver the facts and patterns in any research. Correspondingly, the data in the article relates to my profession and personal life. Working as a manager requires as much knowledge as one can acquire to maintain a proper and ethical work environment. Thus, learning the details of the article such as the extent to which employees can participate in organizational productivity is critical in my profession and also my personal life.
