Toccata and Fugue in D Minor are one of the most populous works of Johan Bach. This music has since often been adopted in several Television, radio stations, and films across the world. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor does not employ one specific instrument for the music, but instead, he adopts a variety of instruments in the music performance. These instruments include English horns, flutes, clarinets, bass clarinets and bassoons. Furthermore, contrabassoons, trumpets, trombones, tuba, tympani, celesta, strings and harps are also employed in the music.
Furthermore, Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor employs a mixture of monophonic, polyphonic and homophonic textures. For example, as the music begins, Bach uses a thin monophonic texture, particularly with the same melody played by one voice before the second voice gradually enjoins it. The chords resulting in a homophonic texture then support the melody. The polymorphic texture, which is a combination of soprano, alto, tenor and bass, creates a pleasant melody for the music.
The harmonic way in which Bach has employed both homophonic and polyphonic texture in his music is undoubtedly impressive. The different notes from various melodies nicely fit together, resulting in a chord (exact harmony) and creating a pleasantly slow to medium tempo for the work. The primary intention of artist Bach is to entertain the listeners through properly organized tempos and melodies.
