The career choices have several appealing aspects. They enhance one’s fitness level since part of the requirements is to do exercises to reach a particular standard. Also, in pursuing these jobs, an individual is exposed to a wide variety of security tools. One becomes highly conversant with the tools and would employ them in diverse situations to deter crime. Another fascinating aspect is getting an opportunity to interact with diverse people. The various jobs, such as correctional officers and private investigators, involve contacting many different people of diverse characters, which could broaden one’s horizon.

Conversely, some features of these occupations are unpleasant. Being an investigation officer could necessitate working during unusual hours and on short notice. It could prove quite challenging to maintain a quality work-life balance and disrupt family and leisure time. Besides, a job such as a security officer exposes one to various risks of varying magnitudes. There is no backup; hence one’s life could be in danger should a security issue arise. In the corrections field, one could be assaulted by a prisoner since felons often hide dangerous weapons under areas such as hair and clothing. One must therefore remain vigilant to avoid such unpredictable yet demoralizing incidents.

Based on the hiring process, these fields are interesting, albeit requiring higher levels of integrity. Part of the procedure involved performing a comprehensive background test focusing on their past jobs and fingerprints to ensure no history of crime. Besides, a person must take a psychological and a drug test to ascertain they are mentally fit to meet the demands of the job. From the practical side of these fields, I think they are calling. Some of the roles played by detention and correctional officers include counseling adult and juvenile convicts. This role calls for one to be empathetic to view them as individuals and not felons hence connecting with their feelings. Conversely, some aspects of private investigation could require a person to use their instincts to identify hidden elements; for instance, in fraud cases, some critical details are obscure and one could easily miss them.
