Abstract

This is very important research that focuses on contemporary issues affecting the business. This research seeks to highlight the reason why graduate students from wealthy and socially stable families have higher incomes than their counterparts who come from poor economic background. There are numerous researches which conclude that students who come from rich families have sufficient resources to support their job search as compared to others. They also have higher social connection which enables them to get jobs within a shorter duration of time. The same studies indicate that women from rich economic backgrounds also earn higher salaries and they are less likely to have higher income than male graduates from less selective institutions. Finally, it is comparative enough to compare the income of a graduate and a non graduate. This is because university is a place where the students not only increase their social horizon but also increase their intellectual horizon. It is therefore not very easy to find a jobless graduate in the society.

Introduction

The comparison of ethnic minority graduate students in successful employment six months after graduation seems to be in decline compared to white British students who finish a there degree at the same time stated by (Zwysen&Longhi, 2016). There reason why these factors have said to incur in the labour market for graduate students from ethnic minority backgrounds. It suggested and reported that students from ethnic minorities are more likely to come from lower economic background compared to their white student counterparts (Zwysen&Longhi, 2016) goes onto say Ethnic minority graduates are also less likely to come from a high social class parental background which may mean that they cannot access the same financial or social resources as white British graduates. However this may be true there are other suggested factors that have said to be the reason why white British graduates are likely to get into employment earlier than there ethnic minorities. Firstly statistics show that white graduate students are more likely to hold a degree from a more prestigious university.(Zwysen&Longhi, 2016) First of all ethnic minorities are more likely to hold degrees from less prestigious universities and have on Average lower grades than white British graduates. What Zwysen&Longhiare saying are white graduate students have degrees to elite universities that hold a higher regard in job market. These units are associated with having a reputation of having successful students who went onto to do great endeavours. It is therefore use this research study to find out the truth of this matter so that an appropriate action can be taken to bridge the gap between ethnic minority graduates and white British student.

Body

However this may be true there are other suggested factors that have said to be the reason why white british graduates are likely to get into employment earlier than there enthnic minorities. This table released today shows a graduate's chances of securing a job after leaving university depend heavily on where they choose to study. The guardian wrote an article saying that statistics showed the university you studied at if there were prestigious and meet the 2.1 standard you were more likely to get employment opportunities than if you went to lower standard university. There group of elite university that are a group called Russell group universities this is where 20 best performing universities are formed into group and are known to have the best achieving results study facilities and helping student into future job prospects. (Sharp, 2015) says the Russell Group is a catch-all term for a group of universities with a shared focus on research and a reputation for academic achievement.

Russel group university have been said to be the go to guide for top firms who looking for top graduate students it has been reported by newspaper articles like guardian saying (Boliver, 2014)Just 36% of ethnic minority applicants to all Russell Group universities were offered places compared to 55% of white applicants between 2010 and 2012. Those least likely to receive offers were applicants from Bangladeshi (31%), Pakistani (30%) and black (23%) backgrounds. So if ethnic minorities are at less likely to get into a Russel Group university there less chance of them reaching top job prospects and having experience of world class education and having opportunities they white British counterparts are more probable going to experience.

It is said Russel group graduates are more successful in employment than graduates from other universities that achieve same grades (Sharp, 2015) says but a top class honours degree from a Russell Group university can give job applications a certain sparkle and may open up some extra doors into competitive career sectors. However this shows if you have the opportunity to go to a Russel Group university and achieve top grades you have more chance of getting a better job. It also said even if you get decent grades from Russel Group University compared to high grade at lower university your degree seem more valuable than that of lower university.

The ethnic minority graduates students still get successful employment like other students from British institutions (Ratcliffe, 2013). It is true that this may be the case but not in all circumstances. Although it is suggested by new paper that higher learning institutions is the best equalizer as African- American students from British institutions are still able to acquire job opportunities as those from less selective universities. In the contrary, the study documented in social force journal highlights that graduates from elite universities have more advantage when it comes to finding well paid jobs and ease at which they get the jobs than black and white students from less selective institutions (Zwysen&Longhi, 2016). The same study indicates that students from higher selective higher learning institutions has an opportunity of getting the feedback of an employer for every six applications submitted while a black student can only receive employment response for every eight applications submitted. In addition the study also confirms that white students who are also from less selective universities also has the opportunity to receive employment response for every ninth application made but this is not for the sake of black candidates who must only submit 15 applications in order to receive one employer response .(Zwysen&Longhi, 2016). The expectation of all people is that it would be very good when all social disadvantages are eliminated but results conducted by other studies such as Michael Gaddis suggests that there is still a gap which needs to be filled. He concluded that after the graduation, there are still other problems which force you to deal with human beings who have developed misguided stereotypes on the reason why you managed to join a given institution. This notion contributes to inequality in employment as some students will be disadvantaged because of the kind of university or college they have attended. From the experiment carried out Gaddis on 1,000 fake job applicants showed that all the white candidates who went through the elite universities has the highest opportunity to get response from the employer with the response rate of 18% but black candidates from the same universities could only have a response rate of 13%. This shows that employment is still given based on tribal and racial backgrounds (Ratcliffe, 2013). The response rate of white students from less selective university had 12% while black students from less selective universities only have a response rate of 7% and below. The same study showed that the black graduate students from elite university have the same response rate to those white students who studied in less selective universities but also the black graduates are offered only job opportunities which have less privileges and low remuneration. In Britain, the likelihood of employing ethnic minority graduate range between 5 to 15% less than white British who get employment after six months (Zwysen&Longhi, 2016). The remuneration for minority women and black Caribbean men also has low remuneration as compared to graduates from elite universities. The same incident increases gradually for ethnic minority specifically that of women and this is a strong indication that it is quite more difficult for ethnic minority graduates to have a positive career progression when compared to white graduates from elite university (Ratcliffe, 2013). The research carried out by DLHE on destination of UK graduates after college showed that there are less likelihood for a minority graduate to get employment opportunity that their counterpart white ones from the same socio-economic status. The same research also shows that in Britain people from ethnic minority are more educated and also they have an upper hand to join University than Whites in Britain. The findings of the research done by Wouter Zwysen and Simonetta Longhi concluded that there is education transition for ethnic minority students to be more committed in their learning but they face difficulties in getting good jobs immediately they graduated from college. The same research also indicated that there is close association between early graduate unemployment earnings of 20-25% and those students who get employment immediately after graduation. This does not depend of performance but depends on ethnicity because there are persistent ethnic penalties (Zwysen&Longhi, 2016). In the same research there was a comparison between ethnic minorities graduates to White British peers with the same educational performance in terms of education quality and grade. They concluded that education qualification, education ba...
