The amount of success that a soccer team or football team or a basketball team strongly and positively correlates with the degree of cohesion among the team members and effective teamwork. Australian Sports Commission did a survey and found out that the teams which registered poor results in their competitions are invariably denied success due to multiple obstructions inform of problems within the team as compared to teams that had fewer problems and are characterized by a success during a competition (Driedonks, Gevers & van Weele, 2014).
Players, coaches and staff of the teams can incorporate a mixture of planning to issues that will maximize the teams chances of being successful and remaining cohesive. A successful team tries to avoid predictable problems at all cost. All teams encounters are range of preventable and avoidable problems. Among the strategies to mitigate against these problems is to ensure the teams organization and discipline. Team members must be punctual at all sporting activities, willing to give their all and train their focus on achieving the agenda of the team as a team without unnecessary distractions. A team that has indiscipline players who come to the training ground to nurse the hangovers and always are late is characterized by epic failure. An international team such as England national football team have attributed some of their defeats to players being drunk and going to parties a night prior to the game day.
A successful team also has a coach and a support team who are constantly encouraging the players to be creative and inventive. Coaches who are successful have the uncanny penchant for trying new ideas, look for new talented players to join their team and formulating new methods of approaching their opponents. Such a coach and a supporting team who incorporate these principles are mostly successful. Learning new skills can be fostered through appreciating successful formations used by other teams and incorporating in your style of play. Occasionally when a soccer team like Brazil wants to play a competitive match, they first arrange a friendly match with a team of similar strength and style of play like the one they are to play within the competitive match. By these, they learn of what ways to tackle the opponent to yield a win ultimately.
Another strategic plan for ensuring success of a team is to recognize individual talents of the team members and reward them accordingly. If a coach has done an exemplary job in the season, let the team appreciate his efforts, and he will be encouraged to do even more in the next season. When a teams winning streak is due to the brilliance of a single player, personal achievement trophies can be given to such a player to encourage him to go on with the spirit and challenge other players to follow suit. In basketball teams, often players who make more shots in a game are rewarded with a bonus in their salary or an upgrade in the terms of their financial contracts.
It is clear therefore that the recipe of success for any team constitutes team members as whole incorporating these strategies and above all trust each other as these ideas establish focus within the team. These ingredients of success have proven valuable in the preparation of successful teams across the globe.
