HOPE worldwide is a non-profit charity whose aim is to provide sustainable civic care to the less fortunate in society (HOPE worldwide, 2018). As such, the organization needs funds to run its activities and provide sustainable care to humanity around the world. This paper discusses the federal agencies where HOPE worldwide can get potential funding, their eligibility conditions, and submission deadline. The paper goes ahead to highlight the ceiling amounts for each grant and how the grants align with the organization's mission statement. The document then defines the impact of the fundings to the organization if awarded and concludes giving two policies that must get published by federal grant regulations.
United States Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are some of the potential federal agencies that HOPE worldwide can seek funding from (GRANTS.GOV, n.d.). However, it is not easy to convince corporations and federal agencies to consider your organization for funding. Therefore, proper management and transparency are some of the qualities that give an organization a boost to receiving grants.
For non-profit organizations like HOPE worldwide, two eligibility concerns must get met. The first eligibility condition states that apart from institutions of higher learning, non-profit organizations must have a "501 (c) (3) status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)"(GRANT.GOV, n.d.). The other eligibility condition is for non-profits with no "501 (c) (3) position with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education" (GRANT.GOV, n.d.).
Funding by USAID on solicitations for development food security programs in Kenya has a deadline for submission is on 20th May 2019. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offers a grant for rural health and safety education with a deadline on 10th June 2019. Additionally, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), offers grant on rural capacity building for the establishment of affordable housing with the deadline for submission on 6th November 2019. These grants fortunately for non-profit making organizations like HOPE worldwide have no ceiling amounts.
With an organization's mission to provide sustainable, large magnitude care services to the poor and needy, all fundings it receives have to be geared to realizing this mission. The first funding by USAID that calls for application for the establishment of food security programs in Kenya offers a long term solution to food shortages in Kenya. The second grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will address health issues in rural areas with inadequate health facilities. The third grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will solve the problem of housing in rural areas. All these grants will aim at addressing human needs, especially to the poor and needy by providing community-based care. They thus align with HOPE worldwide mission of providing influential, community-oriented services to the needy and poor.
These grants if awarded to HOPE worldwide will help finance their operations for another fiscal year. The organization will be able to expand their horizons by offering help to the needy. Furthermore, the HOPE worldwide can expand their activities and make more awareness of the world. By so doing, they will attract more sponsors and donors who will be glad to take part in the organization's success. Additionally, the success of HOPE worldwide will motivate the establishment of other charity organizations to take part in the eradication of poverty.
For the smooth processing of grants, there are written policies that must get upheld. Some of these policies are the OMB uniform guidance of 2014 and the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014. The OMB uniform guidance does away with preceding regulation which is conflicting and forms standard language. The OMB also guides the focus of auditing to extents identified to be of prevalent to fraud. It establishes the base for federal agencies to make standard data processing. Finally, it gives clarity and updates on cost reporting guidelines for the recipient of the award.
The Digital Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014were formed to expand the reporting restructuring of the federal awards that began with the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act (2006). It fulfills the purpose of improving the transparency and quality of the data relayed by the federal government. This policy also ensures the channeling of data to a central database from which the data can be easily accessed and monitored throughout its lifecycle.
Conclusion
For non-profit organizations to be successful in their operations, they need funds from whichever source deemed legal by the law. Charitable organizations, therefore, need to seek out fundings from federal agencies all over the world to help save humanity from killing itself. Organizations such as HOPE worldwide have greatly helped reduce human suffering by caring for the needy and the poor. More charitable organizations and movements should be established to help the less fortunate in our societies.
