Hypnosis can be referred to as a condition of intense self-focus in a person when minimal or less attention is given to peripheral stimuli (McLean). It is often used in therapeutic settings by medics to retrieve crucial information from a person's memory. On the contrary, meditation is a situation where an individual focuses on a solitary thing in a bid to build up the awareness of a specific situation at a given moment. It is evident that hypnosis differs from meditation in that it includes another party, such as a therapist while a person can execute meditation alone.
Positive and Negative Effects of Hypnosis and Meditation
Meditation is critical in building up self-confidence. Also, it is essential in controlling mood and behavior attributed to an increase in serotonin (Faregreeen, N.p). Hypnosis causes relaxation of memories and individuals to have control of their actions. The negatives effects of hypnosis are dizziness, false or non-existent memories, and headaches. Meditation is often associated with stress, anxiety, low mood, and fear (McLean). Other effects are hallucinations, depression, insomnia, and loss of appetite.
Health Benefits of Hypnosis and Meditation
Hypnosis is essential in treating specific disorders such as asthma and chronic pain. Also, it helps treat depression and stress in medical set-ups. It is vital for quelling hot flashes and calming nerves (Klein). Meditation, on the other hand, is essential in reducing the causes of high blood pressure and asthma. It is also believed to be linked with emotion control and promoting self-awareness (Tang 35). In addition, it prevents cancer and heart disease to a significant extent.
Ethical Considerations of using hypnosis and meditation in therapeutic practice
When using hypnosis and meditation in a therapeutic set-up, certain ethical aspects should be practiced. One of them is the confidentiality of information revealed by the subject under hypnosis ("The Ethics of Hypnosis"). Also, the subject must have informed consent of what is going to transpire during the hypnosis period.
I have experience with meditation condition. I once had to meditate on what to say during a celebration held in my home. It helped me deal with self-confidence.
All in all, hypnosis and meditation are a situation that can be both beneficial and harmful to the lives of people. Positively, meditation is essential in dealing with confidence and mod control. Hypnosis is also vital in the regulation of one's behaviors. In a therapeutic set-up, therapists should demonstrate the highest levels of ethics.
