Jauhari, Sari and Dewata (2019), stated the IT strategic statement as good governance, utilization of Information Technology and reliability of the department. Critical Success Factor denoted as CSF is a term used in management for a factor that is important for a project to achieve it its main goals or missions (Jauhari, Sari & Dewata (2019), ). For an IT department to be successful there are factors within the department should be in place for an organization to achieve its goals.
Some of the factors listed by Alreemy, Chang, Walters and Wills (2016) for a successful management in the IT department include:
Skills
For an IT department to succeed, the manager requires proper training in order to put the company in the line of success. Some of the skills that the IT manager has to learn are, financial management, marketing sales, and customer service, communication and negotiation, project management and planning, leadership, problem-solving and, the last skill but the most important one is, networking. An IT manager has to learn networking above all the other skills because it determines how successful a department is going to be and how fast the organization is going to grow as well as achieve its set goals (Alreemy, Chang, Walters & Wills, 2016). The other skills that an IT manager is required to have are, attention in detail skill which is the ability to pay full attention and to be keen to every detail no matter how small. The IT manager should have skill of organization and time management. The manager is to be well organized and must always keep time in every situation.
Communication
The manager should bring together all the employees for them to give their opinions about the business and better ways they could use to achieve their goals (Alreemy, Chang, Walters & Wills, 2016). The manager is required to pay attention in two parts of the communication process which are, the Initial Launch Communications, which is to set the plan to be accomplished by the company and the Ongoing Communications, which is always the part where the manager checks the progress of the business. Communication is significant for managers in the organizations so as to perform the basic functions of management such as planning, organizing, leading and controlling all the activities happening within the IT department. Communication helps managers to perform their jobs and responsibilities effectively.
Planning
For an IT manager to use the CSFs everything in the business needs requires proper planning. The planning includes special questions like how the employee will do the planning and the reasons for the planning. The manager can use tools for faster and easier planning. The manager can plan a strategy for each department separately. Helps to achieve objectives: Every organization has specific goals. Making the company to keeps working hard to achieve the goals. Planning help a manger to come up with strategies that are useful as a means for an organization to achieve its aims with some ease and within the timeline set. Planning also helps a manager to stick to scheduled activities at the right time.
Teamwork
For the business to succeed the manager has to acknowledge the fact that the key to success in the business is a good teamwork. Collaboration among the staff members leads to generation of more ideas and opinions (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). The ideas can be discussed to arrive at the best way to achieve success. A good working environment encourages teamwork amongst employees often registering employees’ devotion to the company. A positive working environment builds professional relationship among every employee in an organization. Such an environment registered increases employee inspiration, efficiency, and reduces employee turnover. Also, encourage employees to unite and encourage one another (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). Such an environment encourages employees to be open-minded and welcomes employee’s opinions on different topics and inputs that benefit the company.
Process
A business process is a pool of related, responsibilities by people or equipment, which specifically produce sequence of services or products. The process at times can serve as a particular business goal. For a particular customer or customers. The process can happen at all levels organization. The business process may be visible to the customers or not (vom Brocke, Zelt & Schmiedel, 2016). A business process may also be modeled as a flowchart which contains the order of activities with the relevant rules based on the data. Using the business processes has benefits such as: customer satisfaction and upgraded quickness for the for the rapid market change.
The IT department is to encourage and create a team environment within the organization. The manager is required to hold consistent meetings or conferences with the entire office which includes all the employees or staff (vom Brocke, Zelt & Schmiedel, 2016). The IT manager is also required to empower co-workers to take “ownership” in the business. This is important to the manager because any feeling of their opinions and insights hold great value. The co-workers will be more likely to make use of their talents and creativity in order to help construct the business as a whole. This way the workers will work together and look for ways to improve instead of waiting for orders.
The main goals of an IT sector include: develop, deploy and support software. Some of the software can be shaped by programmers in order to assist in the procedures and internal processes that verifies to be an investment return. Other software can be generated for clients and when the company develops a software as portion of the IT business plan. The chief goals of an IT department are to develop, deploy and support software (vom Brocke, Zelt & Schmiedel, 2016). Other software created by programmers can help to internalize procedures and processes that can prove to be a return investment.
According to Borremans, Zaychenko and Iliashenko (2018), they suggested the best strategy for IT department to support the goals and objectives in an organization is through prioritization. When the department decides on which initiative they should prioritize, the department is in a position to break down the steps as an attempt to make employees understand the scope of the goals and objectives of an organization ( Borremans, Zaychenko & Iliashenko, 2018). Through prioritization, the management of the department can choose the frame work which best suits the goals and objectives of the company. The leader of the IT department should remind the rest of the employees at the IT department the idea of technological advancements.
Prior knowledge on all the improvements made in technology helps them to design the best framework. Working under a well-organized frame works makes employees to be in a position for quick adjustments needed in the organization as well as make them fix mistakes made when they are adjusting to any new form strategy (Borremans, Zaychenko & Iliashenko, 2018). Prioritization helps the leader in the department to align team as a better chance to support the goals and objectives of the company. Team alignment gives leaders enough time to choose methodologies that will be used to support the company`s goals. Some of these methods include; tem work, good communication skills between the employees and employers, motivation among others.
