Introduction

Print media has been the primary source of information in various disciplines for a long time. However, based developments in multiple fields print media's popularity among various parties has been on the decline. The decline is based on the lack of adaptability to the preferences and requirements of multiple stakeholders. For example, print media is limited in location, time, and revision of its content effectively. Various reasons have adversely affected the use and popularity of print media over time. Therefore, it is factual to state that it is passing on, but still relevant in various ways. However, in some perspectives, print media can be considered dead because some parties have abandoned their usage totally and adopted digital media because of a great deal of convenience. Education and news are the primary areas where the use if print media has been adversely affected.

Print Media’s Decline

I am a graphic design student, which deals with relies on visual composition to communicate various ideas. In graphic design, most of the information acquired as part of the coursework is from digital media. Some courses and resources are instruments in learning which are online because of the broad reach and low cost of circulation. However, initially, there was an overreliance on print media, which has dramatically declined because of the multiple innovations in information technology. When instructors have resources to enhance our learning, in most cases, they use digital media as opposed to print. Digital media can be shared faster at a lower cost, consistent with most learning institutions. Furthermore, digital resources can be edited to suit the interests and or preferences of the learners and the instructor (Gee, 2009). However, there are some cases when it is required of us to use print media sources, though that is on rare occasions. In most learning institutions, there has been an increase in the adoption of digital media in learning, highlighting the decline in print media use. However, it is still relevant in multiple ways.

The other area that highlights the decreased use of print media in daily life, associated with my graphic design study, is in the newspaper industry. Initially, printed newspapers' sale was a booming business because information technology has not dominated most industries yet. However, with significant aspects of innovations of late, there has been a reduction in the use of print media in the circulation of news. In most cases, there is a digital copy of newspapers online, where people pay subscription fees to get a copy. There is a lot of conveniences associated with digital newspapers as opposed to the printed ones. They are accessible anywhere and with any device connected to the internet (Sehl et al., 2016). That is a degree of convenience that is not present using print media resources. Furthermore, the target market, which is composed of millennials, prefers digital sources more than printed ones. There has been a general decline in the sales volume of printed newspapers, which highlights the reduction in the use of printed media.

Conclusion

Digital media has taken over the market once dominated by print media in various sectors. That asserts the fact that prints media is either dead or is passing on. For example, in the writing of this essay, most sources used were digital. Furthermore, there is a revision plan based on feedback from the course instructor. The revision will be convenient because changes can easily be made on a digital copy than a printed one. Therefore, there will be a convenience for me and the instructor because of the resources saved. Feedback from the instructor provides guidance, which I use to express my ideas and practice of skills far much better than before. Therefore, there is a great deal of convenience associated with digital media use, which has led to a decline in print media.
