The quote from Chopin's story that when doctors came, they said she had died of heart disease- of joy that kills is ironic. Louise always had heart problems; therefore, her sister Josephine had to break it out to her in a hidden expression that her husband had died in a train accident. But when Louise gets the information, she is secretly happy because she finds a reason to have her freedom finally. The irony in the quote is that Louise died because of too much joy in her heart due to her husband's tragedy, yet it is expected that joy yields positive effects, but I her case, she dies due to too much happiness. The removal of joy from having control over her life led to her demise. The irony is verbal as Chopin brings something different to the audience from what she is saying that Louise was very happy to have her freedom after her husband's death.

Hemingway believed that the true meaning of a story should not be clearly said in the story. The story is about a girl and an American they are a couple who love each other and are having an argument. The girl wants to please the American by having an abortion as he wants, but that will not make her happy; she only wishes their relationship to be in the past. Consequently, the American wishes for the abortion to occur but not if the girl does not want to because he loves her dearly as he tells her he cares about her even when she says she doesn't care about herself.

Chekhov has changed the whole of short story writing to be seen as something new, different from what writers and readers knew. The lady's story with the dog involves a young woman and a middle-aged man who met and, after some time, began their affair, which only lasted for a few days. Gurov realizes that he has fallen in love for the first time after having multiple affairs for a long time and deeming them to be of a lower race; he thinks about Anna after leaving back for her hometown.

Walker's story depicts Wangero/Dee as well-educated, young, and Mama's daughter and Maggie's sister. Wangero renamed herself, Dee after studying the African culture in school. Wangero is unsympathetic as she becomes angry at Mama and Maggie that they do not understand their origin for not allowing her to display her grandmother's quilts. Wangero is seen to be dynamic as she changes the story. She returns home with a friend after previously saying she would not bring any, also changes her name, and takes a piece of her upbringing to the city after hating it for a long time (Asmarani, 2018).

Hurston has given hints in Sweat to help the reader develop expectations of what will happen later in the story. In the writer's story, foreshadowing is seen when Delia, Sykes's wife said oh well, whatever goes under the devil's back, is got to come back under his belly, which helps the audience know that Sykes will also be accountable for always abusing and beating Delia. At the end of the story, it is seen that Sykes is bitten by a snake and ends up dying.

Guy Maupassant, in his story The Necklace, talks of a woman who longs for wealth and status, and her husband is a low-paid clerk who tries to make her happy but has little to offer her. The writer's background while working as a civil servant and criticizes people who lived in the province of Normandy in northwestern France. He saw these people be like the woman in the necklace who always complained about everything, even trivial things. The story reflects on how people were greedy for being in social status as everyone else; this is seen when Mathilde Loisel complains about what she has to showcase at the Ministerial ball that everybody envied to be part of.

When given money by her husband to purchase a new dress, she says she has no jewelry to wear. The author criticizes how women from low financial resources found it hard to associate and appear in society as Loisel finds it difficult to be seen in her plain clothing. Junot Diaz's story on how to date a black girl, white girl, brown girl, or a half might have been influenced by how as a young boy, he and his family immigrated to the United States and lived in a black-denominated neighborhood hence writing the story to show how immigrants live. The story shows how, during the time it was written, racism affected the children so much that they had to hide aspects of their lives from others to feel they belonged and were equal to everyone else. The story acknowledges that people of different races are treated differently from others, and it should end as we are all human beings.

Atwood's story on happy endings uses a third party to demonstrate the different male/ female relationships. The story depicts that the end does not matter, and a successful relationship is separated by death. John and Mary love each other and will separate only when one dies. The title helps readers glimpse what they expect in the story, such as marriage issues and romance since they involve happy endings as it is the main theme in the story (Zehe et al., 2016).

The writer on the awful fate of Melpomenus Jones talks about how a friend who could not say goodbye is trapped, which signifies the importance of friendships and having friendly relations with other people. Jones visited his friends and stayed till the holidays were over. The title helps prepare the reader that the story involves the tragic accident of Melpomenus Jones. The reader is aware that the story may involve relationships leading to the cause of the tragic fate.
