Foreign films allow one to learn more about other countries' customs and cultures. They are highly enjoyable and beneficial but have challenges such as a surge in video making. This essay will focus on the analysis of Life Is Beautiful film, directed by Ruberto Benigni.
Mise-en-scene in Life Is Beautiful, is a clear indication of its origin. The elaborate hats and the immense decorations indicate the Italian culture. Additionally, as Guido walks with his ally in a town, the ancient buildings, indicate the renaissance period [Life 00:07:13]. Further, the distinctive military uniforms portray the world war 11 era, in conjunction with the plot [Life 1:06: 21- 1: 14]. The setting and the costumes exhibit Italian nationality. Reflecting on the women's dressing, the females wear simple skirts, blouses, and hats, creating strong imagery of the Italian culture. Further, the color at the introductory scene is vivid, depicting the life and its beauty.
Life Is Beautiful film is a silent movie because, despite the drama, romance and comedy, there is more to the film. It is inspirational and focuses on the beautiful family relationship. Additionally, the movie uses sounds and music to express emotions [Life 0.04- 0:16]. The emotive sounds and dialogue in the film syncs perfectly with the actions to engage the audiences and makes the film feel realistic [Life 30:50 – 31: 40]
The sounds and music contribute to making the film effective as they are used in capturing attention. Further, the music is relevant to creating the atmosphere and making the situation seem more factual. For instance, when Guido got murdered by Nazi, the sounds and music created tension.
The cinematography is empirical in enhancing the movie. The eye-level shots make the film more understandable amidst dialogues. Further, the high angle shot at the beginning of the film conveys narrative information [Life 0.06- 0:12]. Editing the film is geared towards emphasizing the family nexus. The widescreen exhibition in the film is sharp and clear resulting in flawless visualization [Life 10:40]. Markedly, the character lesson is pivotal in the movie as it serves as the driving force of the plot. The story lesson is imperative as it entertains the audience and acts as a point of inspiration.
Life Is Beautiful film remains unparraled in the continuity and consistency of the scenes. Notably, the continuity has been achieved through repetition. The repetitive soundtrack in the background creates continuity and cohesion [Life, 3:36 - 3: 50], [Life, 16:29 - 16:36], [Life, 31: 56 - 36:40].
Conclusively, Cinematography, dialogue, mise-en –sense, among other pertinent film styles, are empirical in ensuring cohesiveness in the film. Notably, Life Is Beautiful has used these styles alongside the sound to make the film more compelling and depict originality, nationality, and culture, among others.
