According to Juan Gonzale, author of Harvest of Empire, they are all Americans of the new world, and what mostly divides them is the high wall of ignorance between them. Firstly what surprises me most in the film is Juan Gonzalez's opinion that they never teach in any school that the massive presence of Latinos in America is a direct result of its own government's actions in Mexico and others. Their actions forced many people from those regions to move north. The film provides some light on the nation's growing Latino community. It tells stories that are not available in any archive, and no one talks about it.

The film also presents present-day immigration stories and even rarely-seen interviews with respected individuals such as Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Junot Diaz, The Rev. Jesse Jackson, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Rigoberta Menchu, and many others ( Ponce de Leon Barido, & Marshall, 2014).

Secondly, the Harvest of Empire film relates to several discussions held. Take, for instance, the debate on, 'what might be fueling negativity on Latinos and immigrants from the general population?' According to the film, it is the media that releases information categorized as hate speech. Such speeches instigate violence among the population against immigrants. All that leads to discrimination, as we had discussed in class.

There has been a case of ordinary people whose lives have been affected by violence and poverty, which no one discusses. This movie goes down to speak to them on the impact of such (Andres, & Ramlogan-Dobson, 2011). According to our discussion, the common man, especially the poor, has been highly neglected and ignored. Then whenever they get a chance to migrate to America, the discrimination multiplies. Discrimination is something that needs immediate intervention, and the film does excellent work in unveiling it.

There is a state of crisis in dealing with migration from challenged countries to the first-world countries. There could be a time to come when these countries have to make some hard decisions. The film gives us a clear indication of such a future. If you look at it even, practically, the United States government doesn't know what to do with all the Latin Americans.
