Communication is one of the core factors that contribute to the success of businesses. The ability to communicate effectively through promotion, improvement, and formation of associations between members of varied backgrounds and cultures within an organization or industry influences performance significantly (Odine, 2018). In the current era of globalization, making such effective communication has become a significant challenge. Although the parties involved could be speaking the same language, misunderstandings could still exist due to differences in cultural backgrounds (Odine, 2018). Recent research has indicated the impact of communication on organizations. The study was revealed that in most cases, poor communication leads to poor performances of organizations (Odine, 2018). Principally, such observations help understand how globalization benefits from communication across cultures. Ideally, such understanding assists organizations to establish competitive advantages within the global markets.
A critical analysis of the impact of globalization on cross-cultural communication helps design appropriate communication capacities necessary in monitoring and mitigating internal and external threats. Studies have revealed that ineffective communication from the cross-cultural differences has caused economic challenges for businesses seeking global markets (Odine, 2018). Therefore, identifying the best means of communication for employees and customers from varied cultural backgrounds helps in the fulfillment of missions and visions. Primarily, using technology has helped address the gap created in communication due to cross-cultural differences in global organizations, but full success has not been achieved. Although technology has changed how businesses communicate and market their products and services internationally, culture still presents some challenges that which could potentially limit the expansion of market share and profits (Odine, 2018). Understanding the cultural dynamics of a potential global market for a business does not necessarily mean memorizing every culture, but it is more attributed to knowing when to speak, listen, and when to ask for help within the business context.
Topic 2#: Intercultural Communication and its Impacts on Tourism Industry
The tourism industry is one sector that experiences great diversity, both in culture and communication. Understanding the relationship between varied cultures and communication and how it plays in intercultural places such as the tourism industry helps determine its effects in the particular industry. Businesses and their employees in the tourism industry must address the challenges associated with cross-cultural communication if they have to succeed because the tourism industry is known for great diversity when it comes to the companies at play and the workplace (Sharma, 2018). Previous studies have revealed significant disparity in the management differences and practices from individuals with differences in cultural backgrounds. For such an industry, understanding the implications of cultural differences in communication is of vital importance, especially considering the high competition experienced in the industry.
Industry players in the tourism sector, and most specifically, the employees and management team need to acknowledge better the relationship that exists between cultural differences and communication. With such understanding, it is evident that the workers could exhibit high sensitivity whenever dealing with individuals from varied cultures, which is the norm of the industry (Sharma, 2018). Business can best use the knowledge on intercultural differences in communication as leverage for success in the tourism industry through the adoption and conveyance of messages depending on situations and cultures involved for communication contexts. One most effective approach to such an aspect is through appropriate training of workers to recognize any communication mismatches attributed to cultural differences and establish proper ways of creating an understanding. Such an approach is essential in reducing the risk of cultural clash in communication, thus allowing for the leveraging on cultural diversity by businesses as a competitive advantage against the competitors (Sharma, 2018).
