Introduction
There exists a vast difference in the cultural identities between Paula and Carmen. The most notable difference is based on Parenting. The parents of the counsellor have oriented their daughter to self-reliance and independence. On the other hand, Carmen has a background where provision is granted from various means. She had a husband and both her parents and husbands parents sund to be supportive. The family was united in such a way that the late husband went to the inlaws in times of crisis. Carmen achievements relied on these individuals while Paula's successes are from hard work, and she can take care of her children. The parents are of the idea, and they are happy for her. She doesn't feel the need to have a husband to survive centrally to Carmen, who is at dilemma after the death of her husband.
Ethical Conflicts
The case may require the client to understand the sources f the conflict in the process. To begin with, the autonomy conflict is detected. This is where the counsellor needs to be keen on helping the client to identify themselves. It should be clear to the counsellor that self-independence and self-determination are vital at the initial stage of counselling, and this may conflict in the resect that the client is in a confusing situation. After the process, there is the beneficence whereby the client welfare should be at the centre of the counselling process. The counsellor needs to concentrate on what benefits the client. This may be contrary to the belief and values of the counsellor.
Fidelity in the counselling process may be an issue of concern. This is where the counsellor has to honour the commitment of the client in the marriage. It may be a different situation for the counsellor who has a history with a man and who feels no need to have one in life. Upon the resolution of these conflicts, the counselling process will continue without any bias. Paula needs to apply the AMCD competencies significantly to ensure success in this endeavour. Her awareness of values and preferences from her culture will enable her to help the client in identifying her self well with the culture (Singh et al. 2016). Through this, Paula will be able to cope with autonomy conflict. The counsellor will help the client to identify sources f discomfort and act accordingly.
The counsellor should also apply the awareness of the worldview of the client. Through this, Paula needs to be sensitive to the positive as well as negative attitudes towards the individuals mentioned in the case. This will help in neutralizing the counselling relationship and elimination of bias on one party. The counsellor needs to apply the appropriate strategy in the intervention. They must ensure that the intervention is culturally acceptable. They need to be sensitive n the clients religious and moral values. In such a situation, the client is compelled to believe in what the counsellor is saying. She may be required to have a consultation from the community where the client comes from before proposing the best action.
Conclusion
The differences in values between Paula and Carment shouldn't make Paula make na referral. As a trained counsellor, Paula needs to prove her ability in dealing with the issue as it appears. The client has confessed that the joy of the children should be at the centre, but still, there is a need for Paula to make her client diverse in mind. They need not be unhappy in life due to responsibility. As such Carmen not need to consider her interest but put the interest of the children at the forefront. Remarrying will only make her and the parents happy, but the children may live with grief and anger.
