Introduction
The state of South Florida is one of the many states in the US that have honored the works of the late Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights activist, and a compassionate leader in the early and mid-19th century. The works of Martin Luther King Jr. reflected upon the oppression of black people in America and the maltreatment of black people through discrimination, racism, and lack of employment. It is critical, therefore, that when looking at the history of South Florida, the works of Martin Luther King Jr are given a great deal of thought and appropriate recognition. In South Florida, a bronze sculpture of the slain civil rights activists is situated at one of the most significant memorial parks south of the US.
Racism
Racism is the discrimination of people based on the color of their skin. The gross violation of people's social rights and privileges based on the color of the skin is termed as inhuman and acceptable in contemporary society (Jackson, Thomas 2013). It is essential to understand that majority of world problems and slow progress in terms of industrialization and economic advancements have been slowed down by racism. As such, it is critical to understand the need to completely eradicate the vice from society to realize meaningful progress.
Racial Discrimination
Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life and career to ending the racial discrimination of black people. Earlier governments oppressed black people, and their rights and privileges curtailed. According to (Alderman, Derek 1991, 51-69), the discrimination against job opportunities, access to primary and formal education, and social services such as health and sanitation were the hallmarks of the struggles of Martin Luther King Jr. It is for this reason that a big memorial park was built in South Florida and a bronze sculpture of Martin Luther King Jr. situated at the center of the park to commemorate the life and struggle of Martin Luther King Jr. in the liberation of black people and the cessation of racism (Jackson, Thomas 2013). Generally, the sculpture of Martin Luther King Jr. at the park in South Florida serves as a reminder of where the fight against racism started. It is crucial in sensitizing people about the significance of embracing togetherness.
Conclusion
When discussing US history, it is essential to mention South Florida as it is the state that commemorates one of the champions against racism. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist who dedicated his entire career in fighting for equal opportunities for everybody. As such, it is crucial to embrace unity and togetherness and stop racism at all costs.
