In a society characterized by deep racial divisions, love is a sign of hope for a better tomorrow. The growth of mutual respect amongst people of diverse races nurtures the love for one another. The present-day society needs to practice and show love irrespective of racial differences. Love and mutual respect are powerful emotions that can help people move past hatred and disdain for members of different races. Historical injustices committed by or against particular races should not define social interactions. For centuries, communities and individuals have harbored hatred for one another. Discrimination by skin color has soured relations among members of society (Hall, 2010). However, it is essential to cultivate love and affection for one another. This paper describes the cost of loving others irrespective of a person's race.

The present-day society has made considerable progress in showing affection for people of different races. Compared to earlier decades, mixed-race marriages have significantly increased. People are making an effort to move away from disrespecting others by their skin color. The young population is breaking away from traditional stereotypes used to victimize others. They are falling in love with people whose physical characteristics are different from theirs. The community is moving towards overcoming barriers that define and restrict the formation of social relationships among people of different races(Goldberg, 2016). Feelings and perceptions of superiority or inferiority between races fuel these restrictions. The society is yet to move past these confines entirely. Thus, overlooking these limitations and loving others unconditionally despite racial differences has its cost.

When a member of a minority race shows affection for others, he or she is labeled a traitor by the community. Marginalized races perceive members of other races as enemies who do not deserve affection. The dislike drives members of one community to hate one for showing love to another person. People believe that members of a particular society should prioritize each other before helping others (Hall, 2010). For instance, a person may do a charitable deed such as paying school fees for an individual from a different race. Whereas this is an innocent gesture of love, the generous person is labeled a traitor for helping an "outsider." As a result, the community develops feelings of dislike against him. He or she might even lose friends and his or her place in the society for showing love to someone in need.

In today's society, loving others irrespective of race is perceived as a disrespectful act of betrayal. Communities that suffered racial discrimination place much value in their struggle for freedom and recognition. Members of the community tell stories of their fight for justice and equality with pride (Goldberg, 2016). The tales serve as reminders of the progress made by the people and acknowledges the role of various individuals in the struggle for equality. When a person shows affection to others irrespective of their races, the society views it as a lack of appreciation for the community's fight for justice. Due to the historical prejudices, members are expected to exercise zero tolerance against other races. The expectations of the society view such an act of love as a conflicting deed. Showing unconditional affection implies the individual does not understand the history of his people.

The society needs to work towards repairing racial relations. Discriminatory practices and laws that existed in society soured interracial relations. Whereas these practices are slowly coming to an end, some institutions in the society perpetuate racial discrimination. Thus, hatred between races still exists. Discriminated communities bear strong negative feelings against their oppressors (Goldberg, 2016). As a result, it is challenging to maintain peaceful and harmonious relations in societies with different races. Issues such as violent attacks perpetrated by competitive races characterize a heterogeneous society. The attacks are acts of revenge for perceived prejudices. Revenge can have catastrophic outcomes such as loss of lives and destruction of property. Thus, we need to embrace the diversity of the human population by working toward reconciliation and peaceful relations.

Various religious teachings portray all human beings as equal. Religion encourages people to acknowledge the diversity of the human population and love one another. Religion emphasizes the need to do good for others irrespective of their race. For instance, Christianity advocates for unity and harmony among all people. Its teachings encourage people to care for others, co-exist in peace and forgive one another when wronged (Source, 2016). The lessons promise rewards in the form of blessings for persons who show compassion for others without prejudices. Human beings need to empathize with all members of the society unconditionally. Racial differences should not hinder individuals from developing affection and caring for others. People can express their love through acts such as sharing resources and helping the needy irrespective of their races.

In conclusion, there are societal limitations that prevent individuals from caring for people of different races. Overcoming these restrictions requires a deep commitment to show affection for others. The negative perceptions associated with loving others arise due to the historical prejudices. The history of injustices endured by specific races perpetuates feelings of hatred. The cost of loving others includes society labeling. Individuals who express unconditional love for others become enemies of their community. However, these perceptions are misplaced. Besides, there is a need to repair race relations through affectionate acts to enhance harmonious co-existence.
