The Information Management System of the Mayo Clinic
Epic Technology
The Mayo Clinic health record implemented a single integrated electronic health record and billing system. The system is known as Epic. The system replaced the previous multiple electronic health record system. The current system has been built to meet the specific demands of both the staff and the patients and it helps to manage the data over the years to come. The project is also referred to as the Plummer project, it was named after Henry Plummer who was the first person to innovate a single electronic patient health record (Madson, 2019). The system has facilitated various achievements in the organization.
It Has Facilitated Better Health Services for the Patients
The main goal of the Mayo clinic ensures that all the patients receive high-quality care, services, and treatment. The Epic system has played a major role in enhancing the quality of services offered in the hospital, the single integrated system can record all information about the clinical history, medication, allergies, immunizations, and lab results of a patient. The clinical officers and the patients can access all the information they need (Madson, 2019). The health practitioners can share information and compare different results of the medical report.
The system has improved the efficiency of services in the hospital. Additionally, the system enhances the consistency of data and, as a result, minimum errors are likely to occur. Moreover, the system has improved the workflow because it has eliminated redundancy, and the clinical officers put more focus on the patients' needs (Madson, 2019).
B) The system has fostered a teamwork spirit
The new technological system was innovated by one of the officers in Healthcare through collaboration with other officers. The new system has continued to enhance collaboration among the peers since they work on a common system and it is possible to monitor the work progress of every staff member. Therefore, patients can experience high-quality services (Madson, 2019).

Also, integrated information enabled the medical officers to watch the trends of different conditions and compare results of different results and therefore, they add more knowledge that helps them to best methods for treatment (Madson, 2019).
Electronic Medical Records
Laboratory tests involve complex computations of data and they require high servers that can send and store huge amount of data. For instance, the system has pharmacogenomic decision support that enhances the execution of the clinical decision -support rules for the pharmacogenomic drug. The Mayo Clinic physicians use the information technology Applications to validate and optimize the laboratory tests and clinical tests. Moreover, the electronic medical tests help to order a genomic-based test, retrieve results, and access the improvised technological systems that guide the medical officers to provide appropriate therapies to patients. The system has contributed a huge impact in facilitating high quality .laboratory tests and results and therefore making it easier to identify disorder among the patients and provide necessary care treatment and services (Alumni, 2019).
Emerging Technology at Maya Clinic
Modern technology continues to transform lives in modern society. The benefits of the hospital have traversed to the healthcare institutions and as a result, it has improved the health conditions of the community today. The technological tools used today have not increased the efficiency of operations in the hospitals, but also, they have helped to reduce the costs incurred in the daily operations (Alumni, 2019).
The major challenge in hospitals today is the ability to control the escalating costs that are ever-changing due to economic and legal changes. Most of the hospitals are working to reduce these costs using the latest technological systems. The supply chain is one of the areas that account for major costs in the o the healthcare setting. It accounts for more than 30% to 40% of the healthcare operations. Most of the supplies in the hospitals such as drugs and blood are prone to expiration and therefore they require an effective technological system that will enhance efficient inventory management. Also, an efficient inventory system reduces cases of oversupply and a shortage of supplies. Digital supplies offer a solution to such problems. Radiofrequency Identification technology is among the emerging technologies that are currently used at Mayo Clinic (Mayo Clinic, 2015).
