One of my favorite reality shows is Keeping Up with the Kardashians (abbreviated KUWTK). Kim Kardashian is my favorite star in the series, which began airing back in the last decade. The American reality shows first episode was aired on E! on October 14, 2007, and it has elicited a lot of interest globally. Currently, the series has already aired 11 seasons, and as reality shows do, it concentrates on the professional and personal lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family, but majorly on the three Kardashian sisters Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe. However, it also stresses on the sisters brother, Rob Kardashian, their mother Kris Jenner, as well as their father Bruce Jenner, who transgendered recently to Caitlyn Jenner. Further, it also focusses on the half-sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenner, as well as Kourtneys ex-boyfriend Scott. Additionally, since season 8, Caitlyns children Brandon and Brody, and Leah, Brandons wife became recurring casts. I have closely followed the series because of the drama it showcases, which gives it an enormous global audience, especially when Bruce Jenner changed his sex to Caitlyn Jenner.
I watched Episode 15 of Season 10, It Feels Good to be Home. What is appealing to the audience is the drama between Kim and her mother, as well as the curiosity to see North being baptized in an Armenian ceremony. Kim Kardashians husband, Kanye West stages a surprise performance in Armenia. It is so appealing for the audience to watch. Also, my favorite star in the show, Kim Kardashian arranges a stop in Jerusalem where she arranges for North to be baptized in Israel, particularly at the oldest Armenian Church. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Kris finds it difficult to adjust to Caitlyn after the gender change. Kim Kardashian points out that she always wanted her daughter to be baptized in the holy city and Kanye is relishing the experience, specifically by the outfit the priest wore for the ceremony. Kim was in trouble with Kris because Kris wanted to go to Armenia, but never made it, and was looking forward to seeing her after she returned. However, Kim was flaking when her mother needed. In essence, she was invited over to Kourtneys home so that she would be available when Kris was taking piano lessons, but never showed up, hurting her mother. Staying at home often, she was lightly depressed, and so she wanted to alleviate this by sharing more time with her mom because she was having trouble adjusting to Caitlyns transition. Kim decides to make up for her mom by picking up Caitlyns old things she had put in a box, and in turn giving them to Kris as a parting gift as they held a lot of sentimental value. That made her happy, until she notices a spider in the bags and calls it an omen. Therefore, I find is appealing with the way Kim deals with her daughter and mother, especially, when she has to make up for her mother.
Kim was born in October 21, 1980 in Los Angeles, where she was raised. She is a social media personality, as well as American television celebrity, socialite, model, and actress. She is married to Kanye West, a rapper. According to TopSynergy.com (n.d), Kim Kardashian can be described as cautious, self-contained, and prudent and in most instances, she approaches life realistically, and thus, she is unlikely to take mediocre chances but does not get carried away by overly-optimistic schemes. Generally, she is calculating and careful so that she plans her moves with a high level of advantage and effectiveness. She is highly entertaining, especially in the reality show, and keeps her audience well captivated (Cliff, 2015). In addition, Kim is important because she is not afraid to face the spotlight, has the media as a friend, she is a good promoter and advertiser of products, and also the fact that the media is always watching (Skrhak, 2012).
Relating to the current era, many people like watching reality shows primarily because they are rich in drama. Coupled with the rise in social media gossip, this has promoted her popularity, especially due to the divorce of her ex-husband and the sex tape that he released. Also, I think she is popular because she has been contracted numerously to promote a wide variety of products by companies who have hired her. Also, I believe with her marrying Kanye, who is also a celebrity, her popularity augmented tremendously.
Lastly, I enjoyed watching and listening to the reality show, just like all the other shows we have watched in this term. They are similar in that they are captivating and full of drama. They provide a rich insight into the lives of celebrities, but also market probable real-life experiences that can be fun to undertake. For instance, in the episode, Kim and Kanye had to go to Armenia to have their daughter baptized. That alone elicits curiosity and makes people crave doing the same. Also, they are entertaining, such as when showing real performances by celebrities, as well as how they live their daily lives.
