During his over 20 years of service to the military, Senior Sergeant Ricky W. Plant has set himself apart as an exceptional army officer with meritorious service during a period of succession. He was able to achieve this fete with effectiveness and efficiency showing great responsibility to the Army and to the nation at large. Culminating as a Sergeant First Class serving as an Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Platoon Sergeant with responsibility for the accountability, health and welfare duty performance, professional development and training of 140 AIT Soldiers in the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 13F1O; develops soldiers entering the army to become members of highly motivated, well disciplined, physically, and mentally fit cohesive team; provides the army with soldiers who are proficient in warrior tasks and battle drills (WTBD) and ready to contribute to the operational force; assist with the accountability of $ 250,000 worth of equipment; and advises the chain of command on all aspects of the soldiering process.
He has been exemplary in his service wherever he went with special emphasis on areas such as: The Administrative efficiency; High Physical Demands Testing (HPDT); Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills (WTBD); Physical Readiness Testing (PRT); and Battery Resilience Training. This led to his appointment as Master Resilience TrainerDuring his over 20 years of service to the military, Senior Sergeant Ricky W. As an Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Platoon Sergeant for Bravo Battery, Sergeant First Class Plant demonstrated impeccable discipline and leadership. Sergeant First Class Plant provided expert management and oversight of more than 3,000 administrative actions which supported the students. His daily supervision and development skills of over 300 students provided the army with soldiers who were proficient in Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills (WTBD) and who were ready to contribute to the operational force. Sergeant First Class Plant was selected over seven peers to serve as the Senior AIT Platoon Sergeant.
As the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge at the Effects Section, Sergeant First Class Plant proved to be a multi-talented Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). He excelled at Manning NCO, Platoon Sergeant, and Battalion Joint Fires Observer (JFO) Manager. He expertly created battalion level synchronization of field artillery, mortars, close air support, and close combat attack aviation during multiple National Training Center rotations live fire exercises. Additionally, SFC Plant consistently sought self-improvement with actions such as enrolling in the Joint Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education Course.
Sergeant First Class Plant has been able to maintain the Army Physical Fitness Badge he earned ten years ago. The importance of being fit is that it is important to be physically fit for the office of NCO. He used exacting techniques while implementing the US Army Building the Soldier Athlete Program at many different echelons which directly contributed to soldiers coming off profiles and several platoon averages increasing by 30 points. He coached junior NCOs to developing rigorous and challenging physical readiness training programs that greatly enhanced unit readiness.
Sergeant First Class Plant's efforts have been critical to the success of the units he oversaw by providing exceptional Fire Support capabilities to maneuver units during numerous Combat Training Center (CTC) rotations, multiple combat deployments, and several Battalion through Corps level exercises. He utilized many certifications to include Master Resilience Trainer, Short Range Marksmanship, and Advanced Individual Training Platoon Sergeant who led to commanders and senior enlisted members' success in achieving unit goals and missions. Sergeant First Class exemplary 20 years of service are in keeping with the highest degree of adherence and respect for military service traditions and practices (MRT); Battery Voting Assistance Officer; and Battery Family Readiness Liaison all through his years of active service with exemplary results in each and every area he was attached.
