Patrol in the Past

Historically in the United States of America and the traditional western frontier, police patrol varied widely. At first, there operated the marshals, an idea that was borrowed from the northern colonies. However, there were no formal patrol organizations (Cowell & Kringen, 2016). The police sheriffs led the patrols, and the police officers were not proportionally distributed, having more officers in the areas suspected to have higher insecurity and crime rates. To the aid of the police officers in patrol, the traditional action of patrol there were vigilante volunteers from the society that ensure wide coverage of the patrol during days and nights. While the night patrol was established in the northern colonies, there was the use of slave patrols in the southern colonies (Cowell & Kringen, 2016). The lave patrollers were responsible for controlling and punishing the escaping and defiant slaves. Police patrol services worked and depended on the society for updates and directions. As mentioned, the patrol was not covered by the officers on sole missions- society security personnel were involved (Cowell & Kringen, 2016). Nonprofit organizations partnered in ensuring a safe environment by playing a role through media channeling of security issues, paying officers, and funding police camps.

Patrol Policies impacting the community

The traditional policies were by police patrols, and security enforcements were made with the inclusion of the society leaders for the benefit of the society. First was the interdepartmental open systems in communal perpetuation. This policy dictated that police officers must inform the community regarding any security issues and the reactions that were to be taken (Cowell & Kringen, 2016). Secondly, the police officers had a policy of decentralization of the police forces. This policy was to ensure that every part of the community interacted with the security personnel and enhance a positive interaction with the patrol officers. This way, the productivity of the patrol officers was enhanced without the struggle of power and opposition from society. There was the inter-agency cooperation policy that advocated for more integration of the patrol into the social agencies from the patrol agency (Cowell & Kringen, 2016). This policy ensured that there was a better understanding of the organizations that impacted the community. All these policies were perceived to be more crucial in attaining a reliance state between officers and society by the elimination of disparity factors that would otherwise result in a crime.

Locality and Police Department Patrol

In Texas, locality police patrol is evident. The Department of police patrol in the area has a Division that applies the foot and bike patrol. In specific the Texas A&M international university police department (TAMIU) The division clock around the streets within the campus and the surrounding university residence areas to ensure high levels of security visibility. During the patrol, officers respond to calls and informational instructions.

Foot Patrol

The walking method is the most applicable around the Texas University area. The TAMIU officers provide a consistent presence around the campus and the surrounding streets. The visibility patrols year-rounded for 24 hours, all the days of the week (TAMIU, 2020). The activity is done both day and night due to the high population around the locality. This follows the fact that the population has a probability in increase the chances of crime and is prone to security effects. Through this patrol, the TAMIU has patrol groups among the police officers with a single group consisting of five to seven officers. According to the central patrol officers at the TAMIU department, the groups are divided according to geographical coverage in the small region around the university (TAMIU, 2020). Some patrol squads are mandated to walk around the university and others outside in shopping places, residential estates, and industrial parts. Foot patrol is essential for this area due to immediate crises among students, business persons, and industries. Through foot patrol, the officers have been able to access and deal with the community and schools' needs concerning the call of security dispatchers. The community is grateful for the foot patrol. Police officers get into the root of matters while walking around the locality- they interact and know the police officers better, and respect between them is valued.

The Bike Patrol

TAMIU police officers operate the bike patrol within the university but more particularly in the down street, which is further from the police station. To ensure the perfection of this method of patrol, 26 bicycles are held within the station. The bike patrol method is seasonal and is done more during the day than at night (TAMIU, 2020). This patrol is seasonal due to adverse weather changes- during rainy seasons, bike patrol is inconvenienced. Regular bike training and measures are taught to the police officers and the lieutenant checks on the quality of patrol. The bikes used are mountain bikes with gear changers to ensure speed on emergency call response. Officers have to attend classes at TAMIU, where orientation is riding for 20 miles (TAMIU, 2020). The bike program patrol aims at giving better experience and flexibility in journeying to the officers for a faster response than when using feet. Also, the bike program is done as bikes can penetrate some streets where other vehicles cannot. The students and residents are grateful for the innovation of this bile program. Students enjoy the Saturday training offered by TAMIU, where they learn more about public security policies and fun activity of riding bikes.

Community and Police Interaction

Through the discussed programs, the community gets a resurgence in the security and community policies upheld. The patrol has brought a fissure between the law enforcement police and the community. The relationship boost of is enhanced during the patrol. Officers reach out for communal services. The programs are on the point of involving the community in pretty horrific cases through loyal investigations. The interaction impacts the attainment of all-around police visions of zero Torrelance (TAMIU, 2020). The public now has a harmony of social, and economic activities through these programs of interaction.
