The primary mandate of the security team is the maintenance of order and control when the church is open for public access. Under this policy, the individuals who serve in the church security team will be required to be both under study and maintain an approachable attitude at all times. A guiding principle of policing for members of the team is that security is more internal than external. It is more about intelligence and how one approaches the security issue at hand that defines successful policing. Therefore, security team members should not be deluded by physic as a determinant of their ability to deliver in their roles. Here below is the fundamental structuring/role distribution for the security team:
Chairperson of Security:
Shall be appointed by Pastor Malobe S. Sampson. Chairperson shall be a person willing to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and report any /all security-related information to the appropriate authorities. The authority to which s/he will report includes the Pastor or head of the deacon board. The chairperson shall also determine the uniform of the day for each service and/or event.
All security meetings are to be held once every month or as the chairperson or authority above him/her (Pastor or head of the deacon board) shall deem necessary.
Security Team:
Shall comprise of individuals who are members of the church in good standings, under study and have an approachable attitude. Such a member should pass a background check to ensure suitability for overseeing quality security services are delivered on behalf of the Thessalonia Worship Center.
Firearm: Any member in possession of a licensed firearm shall also be in possession of an Armed Security License. All members must maintain strict adherence to all of NYS laws on use and safeguard of firearm. Details and identities of members who are in possession of a firearm, are to be closely guarded and held with the highest level of confidentiality and not shared with the public whatsoever.
Security Equipment:
- Portable radios- to be used for communications throughout the church and/or special events.
- Unusual Occurrence Logbook- To document any unusual incidents that warrants attention.
- Security Office- To continually monitor surveillance cameras and secure all security equipment.
Security Strategies:
Church Services- During services, security members shall be positioned strategically throughout the sanctuary. Key locations of the church building that they will be manning and monitoring include entrance and exits. They should also be in high alert to monitor collections of money during the church sessions. The positioning of security members shall be pre-determined by the chairperson of security prior to service. At the end of service, two security members shall escort the deacon in charge of collection of money to a designated secured location.
Parking Location- Security team shall make periodic checks of the parking lot throughout the day, ensuring that all vehicles are secured and that nothing is in plain view to cause any criminality.
Special Events- Security Team shall ensure that all areas not being used for the event are secured, and that all exits are clear of obstruction. Ensuring that no one is allowed to loiter and idle throughout the church.
Unruly Person - Any person deemed unruly should be approached with dignity and privacy to avoid an escalation of the behavior. Should a security member be unable to gain cooperation; a deacon shall intervene to resolve to the problem. The deacon shall be the approving authority to request police intervention.
Security Assignments:
Sanctuary- monitoring both people's behavior and their personal belongings. Ensuring that all exit doors are thoroughly secured after services.
1st Floor Cafe- to monitor crowd control and to provide security while money is being exchanged.
Restrooms- All restrooms shall be visibly inspected to ensure no one is hanging out in the restroom during service.
Closing- The Security Team shall assist the trustee on duty with the closing to ensure that all areas are thoroughly secured.
