In the recent past, there has been a great transformation within the nursing field. The continual advents of new groundbreaking healthcare technologies are expected to bring many more changes. Through the new platforms, programs, and devices, nurses can provide better care to their patients. In the future, these new technologies would open other paths for nurses, making it possible for them to continue excelling in their careers. To effectively navigate the future of nursing, one would need to have advanced preparation and skills (Cleveland & Cleveland, 2009).
Moreover, future nurses would need to embrace new technologies and innovative ideas in the nursing field. Modern technologies have helped greatly to advance research, communication, treatment, and training. Some to effectively succeed in the modern nursing landscape, one may need to familiarize with modern technologies such as simulation, medical robots, and treatment machines.
Considering the diagnosis of common illnesses starts happening at the molecular level, the study of genomics and genetics stands a great deal to change nursing's future. That would significantly impact care for patients with cancer, metabolic diseases, and cardiovascular conditions (Hovenga et al., 2010). As health care practitioners continue learning about outcomes of specific therapies on certain diagnoses, a nurse who is training in these technologies would in no doubt be equipped to give more effective, individualized treatments.
Within the healthcare landscape, robotics has been a major part for many years. The new and advanced technologies in nursing today have continued to bring improvement to the surgical and diagnostic abilities of these robots. This development has been a source of challenge to nurses who desire to maintain their technical skills up to date. Experimentations with a robot caregiver are, however, the greatest consideration (Cleveland & Cleveland, 2009). Although technological changes may never replace human workers soon, one needs to prepare to work alongside these medical robots as a nurse. Learning the procedures and practices of working and handling robotic instruments could soon become commonplace for experienced nurses and those entering the profession.
Todays, nurses and health professionals in general track patients and equipment by use of locator tags. The device helps nurses find equipment easily and quickly and keep better tabs on bed management and patient flow (Hovenga et al., 2010). In the future, this technology will make it possible for facilities to automatically track the various phases of a patient care experience. From the time a patient is admitted at the healthcare facility until the discharge. A central system would make it possible for a single-screen look at all activities with unity, effectively allowing better patient care and streamlining various administrative processes.
While health informatics ensures patients get better outcomes, it also affects nurse practitioners and other healthcare providers by gathering and using information. For instance, it helps improve nurse practitioners' expertise. Involving health informatics makes it possible for a nurse practitioner to better access educational tools and evidence-based information. The informatics also helps a nurse to enhance communication (Cleveland & Cleveland, 2009). That is because, like other medical professionals, nurses also have easier access to enhanced communication. The use of digital resources such as patient portal makes it both easier and faster to hold discussions about prevention methods and patient outcomes, among other care details.
