The Coronavirus disease (COVID19) has significantly affected how national, regional, and global businesses are conducted. It has overwhelmed the healthcare department, and it continues to write history as it continues due to its rapid spreading methods. This case study grieves the report a brief history of Coronavirus disease: therefore, while SARSCoV2 might have originated, the history of spread, effects of rapid spread on the healthcare department, and the condition of state healthcare and disruption caused by the pandemic (Wang et al., 2020).
The world health organization (WHO) was first notified in December 2019 about a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan City, a city with a population of more than 11 million people. By January 5, 2020, more than 59 cases of the disease were confirmed, with no fatalities recorded. The virus responsible for this condition was finally isolated on January 7, and its genome was shared with the public on January 12. The three cases of the severe respiratory condition became later known as COVID -19. The condition was later declared a pandemic level condition after it rapidly spread to other areas of the globe. The first case of this pandemic was declared in the country on February 15, and over the period, the country has witnessed more than 120000 cases with 9045 deaths (Wang et al., 2020). With a population of over 39 million citizens, the disease significantly affected the healthcare system due to its overwhelming nature. There have been more than 22 million infections globally, and more than 6 million active cases. Hence, COVID19 presents the globe with a big challenge with huge sophistication, which requires a high scale of intervention. In one sense of the sophistication, the disease affects the most vulnerable people in the society with less immunity, rapid spread, the high mortality rate, which overwhelms the healthcare system to treat the severely ill. The three aspects combined make it hard to control the spread while the existing medical technologies are deployed to speed the development of a treatment or even vaccines (Shereen et al., 2020).
On the other hand, the rapid spread can be attributed to the SARSCoV2 virus's ability to survive in aerosols and on surfaces for 20 days. Although soap and detergents are important in destroying the virus, it has an incubation period of up to 14 days. The individual can spread the condition to an average of three more people. The clinical presentation of the condition varies from asymptomatic, subclinical, mild illnesses, and severe or fatal cases. Patient deterioration of health rapidly occurs in the second week of infection, and viral loads can be up to 60 times higher in people experiencing severe symptoms than the case in mild cases. Death is mainly caused by pneumonia and hyper inflammation (Parry, 2020).
The risk factors of the severe condition of the disease or even death include the age where an increase in age increases the risk, being of a minority ethnic background, hypertension, immunosuppression, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, smoking, obesity, and chronic respiratory disease. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), conditions of hypertension, and cardiovascular disease as strong predictors of admission in the intensive care unit (Barro, UrsĂşa & Weng, 2020).
With the background of the disease described, the condition has caused significant disruption in the country in various ways. These impacts vary depending on the nature of the connection with the disease. In this case, the disease has caused disruptions in healthcare operations, education provision, economic output, and disruption of economics due to the loss of jobs and sources of livelihood at all levels of operation. These aspects directly impact the nation as the market regulator and are responsible for facilitating county operations. The government has been forced to go out of its way to ensure that the impacts of the condition are mitigated as if left unresolved, the condition could worsen and be unmanageable (Shi, Dong & Cao, 2003). Therefore, rapid and swift interventions are needed to be implemented in various sectors of the economy to mitigate the condition for the coming days. History is not kind to failure to mitigate the impacts of the condition as in the early 1900s; a Spanish flu outbreak led to the death of more than 50,000,000 deaths from 500 million infections. The condition happened within a streak of two waves, and this was after people failed to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the disease. The Canadian government under the ministry of finance and budgetary appropriations has conducted an intensive study of the economy, especially the areas affected by the condition to analyze and recommend ways in which the country can be brought back on track while taking the necessary precautions to prevent even further degradation of lives (Parry, 2020). The recommendations have been highlighted in the report as The Economic and Social reforms stimulus package in the implementation section in this report.
Based on the complex nature of the condition, the program will be implemented in three major phases: short-term, mid-term, and longer-term initiatives of up to three years of implementation to guarantee full recovery. Current statistics show that more than 20% of the global population has been affected either directly or indirectly with the condition. Hence, Canada is no exception; there is a need to correct the condition to avoid further problems caused by inadequate and proportionally distributed wealth in society. These are aspects that can be learned from the Spanish flu; hence, the need for improved sophistication in solving human problems (Wang et al., 2020).
After the Spanish flu, there was a widespread disruption in the dynamics of the economy, therefore widespread poverty and, in turn, social unrest. In addition, based on the dynamic nature of COVID 19, there will be the need to implement longer-term intervention techniques to help bridge the existing gaps while preparing for future conditions that test the healthcare capacity and crucial services provision (Flecknoe et al., 2018). Education has been the most affected as the model of education has remained unchanged for centuries. This aspect proves to be hard to adapt to the change in teaching techniques easily.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the pandemic has had detrimental impacts on the social, economic dynamics of the globe due to the complexity it possesses, hence the need for sophisticated intervention measures to prevent further detrimental impacts on lives and the social structure.
