Claims of definition: what is it? How can we define it? How can it be interpreted? Can its meaning vary with contexts?

Claims of cause: what is its cause? What effects does it have? What led to it?

Claims of value: is it good or bad? How can verify its worth? (Nancy & James, 2014).

Claims of policy: what should be done about it? What should be changed? What law should be followed?

How do claims typically appear in a written argument? That is, do writers limit themselves to a single purpose and claim or not? Discuss. (LO2)

In a written argument, typically, claims do not appear singularly. The writers, normally, do not limit themselves to one claim. It happens that they ask several questions before commencing with paper writing. Subsequently, they focus on one primary claim that gets generated by asking various questions (Nancy & James, 2014). Some other questions normally lead to sub-claims alongside facts that can be used by the writers to form part of the argument. Thus, in the paper, as written by the author, there is one claim that forms the thesis statement. Then, there is supporting evidence that backs up the claim as the argumentative paper is being written.

What events have occurred in the past few months either on campus or on the national or international level that have generated issues? What are some of these issues? (LO2) Exercises and Activities

On the international level, following the rapid spread of coronavirus disease, there have been events where the heads of states affected have been forced to launch a total lockdown in their countries. In so far as they are undertaken in good faith of curbing the spread of the virus, some issues have arisen as a result. One of them is the fact that some sections of the population are not able to access their basic needs. It is because they depend on their daily hustles to have the capabilities of paying their bills, including buying foods, rent, and electricity expenses. They are the populations that live from hand to mouth; hence they are agitating for their respective governments and the concerned non-governmental organizations to help them in such areas as the provision of relief foods.

Furthermore, following the implementation of night-time curfews (from 7 pm to 5 am) by the countries to prevent the spread of coronavirus, there is a situation where some people are caught violating it. They are found by the police officers on duty alongside the vigilante groups roaming in the night, which has led to their clash. The violators are being beaten for failing to respect the directive, a situation that has, in turn, led to them being injured, hospitalized and others killed.

Finally, in the run to curb the community spread of the virus, some countries have imposed regional travel restrictions. The people are being required to stay at their homes since the virus, once spread to a given region, can cause huge effects. However, some people have been caught violating the directive. They trek using village paths to their destinations. Some of them have succeeded in their movements, while others have been caught by either the angry villagers or police on patrol, leading to their facing the consequences of the law for violation. Others have been maimed, imprisoned, killed, and others forced into fourteen days quarantine. Thus, the actions taken by the governments to curb the spread of covid-19 have generated the above-stated issues.
