One thing I learned was about ethics and how it is incorporated. For instance, human service professionals are employed in many different settings such as children and youth service agencies, community mental health centres, group homes and correctional facilities among others (De las Fuentes et al., 2005).

The personalized nature of their work dictates that they follow a specific code of ethics. This code of ethics is intended to institute standards for their practice and guard the rights and dignity of the clients as well as the workers. Another lesson learned is that ethical dilemmas often come up as the human service professionals carry out their duties (Kong 2013). Since an individual’s well-being and freedom are at stake deciphering ethical dilemmas takes a systemic approach that consolidates both moral philosophies and gives precedence to the set ethical guidelines.
