Introduction
The plan below is for a retreat whose main aim is to discuss the Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) strategies regarding healthcare issues. The retreat will take place in Radisson Hotel located in Baltimore, Maryland. Those invited will include the Johns Hopkins Medicine management team, representatives from Maryland’s department of health, and other essential healthcare service providers. The process used to develop a strategic plan will include determining the following: How did the health issues get to where they currently are? What is the plan's vision? Defining the problems that may hinder the plan's smooth operations, and steps needed to ensure that the strategies are implemented. It is essential to know the vision, missions, and goals to enable quick and smooth implementation to improve the healthcare system.
JHM Strategic Plan Annual Update
The following are six goals included in the plan:
Make JHM Easy
The strategy involves enhancing patients’ experiences through improving navigation, care transitions, communication, and improving access (John Hopkins Medicine, 2019). This plan's annual update is to build a free mobile phone application consisting of details such as emergency contacts and check-up updates of patients signed in the system.
Support the Well-Being of Our People and Our Communities
This aim is to create a supportive, inclusive, and diverse organizational culture by growing the local community-engagement efforts (Pronovost et al., 2015). For the annual update, JHM will organize community-based activities twice a month to educate people on healthy practices that improve their well-being.
Push the Boundaries of Science and Education
The plan is to encourage continuous innovations that will enrich the environment for learning and discovery (John Hopkins Medicine, 2019). It is about investing in science education. For this strategy, the annual update supporting local technical education institutions by providing free internships and seminars for medical students from local universities.
Improve the Quality and Affordability of Healthcare
JHM aims at providing patients with a quality, safe, and efficient service (Bryson, 2018). The annual update for this plan will include incorporating employees, patients, and their family members regarding healthcare issues.
Work Like One Organization
It involves the sharing of education and research across JHM venues (John Hopkins Medicine, 2019). the update consists of creating a budget system that will be integrated with all other JHM venues. Also, a uniform model regarding the flow of funds must be established.
Aim for Precision in Everything We Do
JHM plans to use data to guide decision-making regarding patient care, the organization, and finances (Safeer et al., 2018). The annual update will include creating a Precision Medicine Centers of Excellence (PMCOEs). These centers will cover basic and clinical researches.
