Introduction
The article, “Nurse Reported Bullying and Documented Adverse Patient Events,” examines how health practitioners engage in illegal behaviors, which affects the quality of services offered. Bullying is perceived as a major vice that affects the quality of services delivered (Arnetz et al., 2020). Normally, nurses have a vital role in creating a good environment that improves the attainment of positive customer outcomes. Therefore, the article tries to explore how bullying among nurses impacts patient outcomes.
Research Design and Setting
The research article uses a combined study of cross-sectional questionnaire design on workplace bullying with a retrospective unit-level administrative information on patient adverse occasions (Arnetz et al., 2020). In which, the setting of the article is based on registered health practitioners in a large regional care center in Mid-Western America (Arnetz et al., 2020). In this case, the article was based on a hospital with a large number of healthcare practitioners.
Sample Data
The article uses the questionnaire sampling system. In which, 41 items were integrated into questionnaires (Arnetz et al., 2020). The sampling system was linked with an online survey system, which assists in connecting to nurses. The participants were required to follow the online invitation for a period of one month. The sample engaged a total of 432 health practitioners across 37 units (Arnetz et al., 2020). The research included all those participants who agreed, left blank and denied to identify their units. Additionally, the response rate of the research article was 24.3%, which provided enough information for the study (Arnetz et al., 2020). In the study article, the work unit was perceived as a vital aspect of data collection. Therefore, it was a key trait that influences the response rate.
The research article used a validated questionnaire to complete the survey questions. The questions were filled from registered nurses on how bullying impacts patients outcomes. The response approach among nurses was determined by their qualifications. The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicator was deployed in the selection of the participants (Arnetz et al., 2020). The data was measured using a generalized linear model, which assisted in the analysis of information from the questionnaire. As an approach to improving the efficiency of the system, the study engaged the Bayesian technique, which is more effective when dealing with limited data research.
The research used an intervention to address the bullying system that is experienced in the healthcare center. In this case, the research article uses a malleable factor of the health practitioner practice environment, which is a critical aspect that impacts patient outcomes.
Appraise the Article
Due to the nature of the sampling method, it easier to conduct. Normally, the application of an online survey system gives the researchers an easier way of acquiring the data (Lamsma et al., 2019). Furthermore, it is easier to collect the data using the sampling method as it allows the researcher to connect with a wide number of participants. Therefore, it is cheap to collect a wide quantity of data within a short period (Arnetz et al., 2020). Additionally, the sampling method creates a scalable result, which improves the analysis.
Despite several advantages, the sampling method is associated with numerous weaknesses that hinder its effectiveness. Normally, the application of an online response system increases the chances of participants providing dishonest answers. The approach may have affected the quality of data collected for the study. Additionally, the participants may have skipped essential questions, whose response rate was 24 percent, thus affecting the amount of data for drawing the conclusion. The approach was highly associated with a casual response, which affected the nature of the answers provided (Lamsma et al., 2019). If the answers are not clear, the researcher may have experienced challenges during the analysis. Additionally, some of the participants failed to fill the unit level, and this triggered data exclusion during the analysis.
The application of the general linear model is highly associated with inefficiency, thus affecting the validity of the data. Normally, the general linear model tries to predict unknown figures, and this increases the chance of researchers making some errors during the measurement process (Lamsma et al., 2019). Due to the variation in data, the observation and prediction of the expected figure may highly be associated with errors, thus affecting the precision of the study (Arnetz et al., 2020). Additionally, the validity of the research may have been affected by technique failure, which caused an identical distribution of errors.
If the study method was experimental, the intervention would be performed consistently. The approach may be achieved as the researcher is exposed, thus improving the effectiveness of an intervention (Lamsma et al., 2019). The approach may be used to establish a safe and cost expression, which improves the intervention approach (Arnetz et al., 2020). Additionally, the experimental approach would have given the researcher an opportunity to understand the risk factors associated with the topic of study.
Conclusion
The conclusion is supported by the result as it illustrates that bullying in healthcare systems is linked with A central line-associated bloodstream infection, whose p-value is P < .001 (Arnetz et al., 2020). The approach supports the conclusion by illustrating that the conceptual approach that triggers bullying in the healthcare center. Additionally, the conclusion considered the limitations as it illustrates that the outcomes should consider the challenges experienced during the process.
