Nursing is a career with extensive opportunities, and they are professionals who focus on personalized care. Nurses are always in demand, and the demand percentage tends to increase annually. They promote health, help doctors in preventing diseases, and help patients to adapt to their illnesses. They have a massive scope of work, and they can also practice independently. They also needed to cooperate with other healthcare professionals to provide the care necessary for patients (Watson, 2011).
This paper will analyze why nursing is the worst career in the medical field, with some of the discussed reasons being low wages, understaffing, and lack of appreciation. The analysis is either positive or negative.
Nursing is the best profession, and it is highly appreciated, with many health facilities always in demand for highly skilled nurses around the globe today. Therefore nursing is not as bad as people seem to see, but it has some benefits. First, there is a shortage of nurses; therefore, nurses get jobs quickly, and with them being on-demand thus, their wages are quite fair but not to the standards of other medical practitioners. The job flexibility of nursing is high, and nurses can work where they want at the time they want. They are the critical link between patients and doctors, so many people respect them. Nurses working overtime, in harsh conditions, and during their holidays usually get good pay. The nursing career is one that has several directions, and nurses work in different fields within the medical area. There are very many specialties with over 200 things where one can get a certificate leading to an increase in salary because of the extra services obtained (Writers, 2020).
In contrast to the benefits of nursing benefits, nurses spend most of their time with the patients than any other profession in the medical field. Nurses influence outcomes and the progress patients show on their way to recovery. They access patients and report on the observation, unlike doctors who only make medical diagnoses. They work for very many hours per day without breaks and perform many tasks during the process. These above reasons are which show that nursing is somehow the worst career in the medical field. With all these struggles and working overtime with close monitoring of the patients, nurses' wages are below doctors' salaries. Doctors do not perform a lot of work than nurses though their training takes more time than the nursing training. Therefore working for long hours and doing much of the work makes the profession a worse career (DeLucia et al., 2009).
Nurses get assigned many patients to manage because of the shortage of nurses in the field. With them working as the link between patients and doctors, they tend to attend to many patients. Their roles are to check the progress of patients and give all of the observations to doctors. At other times nurses are mostly interrupted to attend to other roles that are not theirs like documentation and paperwork. These above aspects show that nurses are understaffed and attend to more than they can (DeLucia et al., 2009).
Nurses get low appreciation in their areas of work. Whenever patients die, all of the blame falls on them because they do not observe their patients keenly. They are also getting a lot of work to do with minimum breaks, working overtime, and getting interruptions to attend to other cases like emergency cases. With many of the interruptions, they take care of the patients assigned to them, and this feels that they get a low appreciation of their work. Most of the overtime they work, they are not paid well.
The reason nurses feel they need more appreciation is because they can save lives, and handle a lot of patients that would make other professions squeamish, working long shifts on their feet. They care about the emotional and medical needs of their patients.
