Imagine for a moment walking in the streets and not being able to see a homeless person! Homelessness is a social issue that affects many people. Particularly, in homelessness is evident in the Bay Area. The old definition of a homeless person is one who is living in the streets because he or she does not have a home. However, the new definition of a homeless person is one who does not have a permanent dwelling and is unable to maintain a safe, secure, and regular housing. Homeless people in the Bay Area should be given access to services such as regular food, donations, public restrooms, and housing opportunity.
Homeless people in the Bay Area are unable to get a safe place to stay. Turner (p.1) affirms that the Bay Area is not a safe environment for any individual to live because of the activities such as eating, using the toilet, and sleeping. Living in the streets is dangerous as homeless people are susceptible to muggings and diseases associated with the cold nights and bad food as well as water. Besides, conducting activities such as eating, sleeping, and using the toilet appears dehumanizing for the homeless people.
Homeless people in the Bay Area are unable to secure housing. Veale (p.1) articulates that in the Bay Area, colleges and Universities are struggling to give students secure housing as they struggle to squeeze themselves in the tight housing market. Also, Noack (p.1) affirms that students in the Bay Area lack stable housing. Evidently, the lack of stable and secure housing eventually results in the issue of homelessness among students. The repercussions are dire as they interfere with their mode of learning.
Homeless people in the Bay Area are unable to get regular housing. Noack (p.1) asserts that stable housing in the Bay Area is out of reach. According to the author, the lack of stable housing in the Bay area has skyrocketed to an extent people in that area have started to believe that homelessness is a normal thing. Seemingly, the prices of houses in the Bay Area are too high to an extent an average person cannot afford to purchase and maintain one.
A homeless person is one who does not have a permanent dwelling and is unable to maintain a safe, secure, and regular housing. Based on the findings from the research, homelessness is becoming prevalent in the Bay Area, especially among the youth. The state government of San Francisco has to come up with developmental plans that will ensure the issue of homelessness ends.
