For a company to be successful there needs to be an effective leadership that can deliver quality results. Leadership development program is vital in every company because it ensures that there is strong leadership that can cultivate other potential leaders to learn and grow. The development programs ensure that an organization is sustainable enough. Companies may develop their programs or hire an external organization to facilitate the program (O'Keefe, 2019). This paper addresses the reasons I would create a leadership development program instead of hiring an external organization facilitate the program. Also, it is essential to address the major challenges that can occur during the development and implementation of the program, and provide alternative approaches that can be used to address the leadership challenges.
As the HR manager, I would consider taking a personal initiative to create leadership development. This is because I have enough knowledge of all the employees' strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, I am in a better position to address personal issues that affect the potential leaders in my organization and help them incorporate leadership elements that will enhance them to unleash their potentials.
There are various challenges that I am likely to meet during the development and implementation of a leadership program. The fact that most of the employees are not ready to undertake any leadership responsibilities, some employees would lack interest in participating fully in the program. Also, some leaders consider teaching the duty of human resource and their responsibility. Moreover, some I expect that some leaders would fail to exhibit accountability when developing other employees to become leaders.
A leadership development program involves must accommodate the design processes and strategies that can enable internal leaders to teach, mentor, coach and develop other potential leaders. Four major steps can be used to overcome leadership development barriers. The first one is identifying the leaders that can help to develop other new leaders. Secondly, seasoned leaders should be prepared to teach, coach and develop new leaders. Thirdly, leaders accountable for developments should undergo periodic assessments. Lastly, leaders who perform their duties diligently should receive rewards (Anderson, 2019). . The four steps would reap huge benefits to the organization due to adequate leadership.
To sum it up for an organization to grow people must also grow. Senior leaders must help the emerging leaders to become more productive. Human resource managers must address any barriers that can hinder the senior leaders from providing adequate mentorship and education to potential leaders.
