The Fresno County Sherriff's Office directs most of its efforts toward crime prevention, homelessness, and drug abuse within the county. In line with the organization's mission, the Fresno County Sherriff's Office fosters unity and cohesion among communities through programs such as Citizen's Academy. The Citizen's Academy provides an opportunity for residents of Fresno County to interact with the Sherriff's department in order for them to be brought up to speed on the activities of the organization. In order to mitigate recidivism, the organization has formed partnerships with various stakeholders across the county to support the Transition from Jail to Community program which ensures that rehabilitated criminal offenders are successfully integrated back into society (Chavira, Botello, & Lagomasino, 2016). Therefore, people have been able to find ways of co-existing peacefully.

The Civil Unit of the Fresno County Sherriff's Office reaches out to destitute families in order to get them off the streets. They help homeless people by helping them acquire affordable housing within the county (Speer, 2016). In order to combat drug abuse within the county, the Sherriff's department liaises with other state and federal authorities to arrest drug traffickers who operate within Fresno County. The organization also supplies Naloxone to correctional facilities as well as to health centers so that people suffering from opioid overdose may receive much-needed medical attention.

Strategic Plan Outline

The Fresno County Sherriff's Office develops a series of strategic plans to guide the organization in the execution of its mandate. The plans identify the stakeholders who will be involved in any of the programs being undertaken by the organization. It also identifies and addresses the challenges that are likely to be encountered.

Relevant Stakeholders and their Roles.

The fight against crime, drug abuse, and homelessness will require the collaborative efforts of the Sherriff, deputies, law enforcement officers drawn from various governmental agencies, lawyers, heads of correctional facilities, and the general public. The Sherriff would be in charge of coordinating all criminal investigation activities with the help of his/her deputies. Lawyers would be in charge of providing legal counsel to perpetrators as well to law enforcement officials to ensure that the rights and freedoms of the people are not violated. The general public would be tasked with the responsibility of providing information to assist in criminal investigations. The heads of correctional facilities would oversee the counseling and rehabilitation programs within correctional facilities.

Public Safety Issues

The safety of the general public would be jeopardized by people who possess firearms illegally. In Fresno County, illegally acquired guns are usually used to commit crimes (Chipman, & Pappas, 2016). The selling of narcotics near schools and in residential areas would also bring about gang violence and promote addiction among school-going children.

Strategies and Data Resources

The Fresno County Sherriff's Office would ensure that public records such as criminal records are used in mandatory background checks during the purchase of firearms. Furthermore, criminal offenders on probation would be required to report to their probation officers every week so that their progress can be monitored in order for them to avoid going back to a life of crime. Housing and tax records would also be used to ensure that only bona fide destitute families receive affordable housing.

Conclusion

The strategic plans developed by the Fresno County Sherriff's Office are aimed at providing the best services to the people of Fresno County. The implementation of the strategic plan would ensure that the prioritized public issues such as crime prevention, drug abuse, and homelessness are effectively addressed.
